Trying to decide how my kids can spend their money from their magic shows. Just wondering if someone has researched between these 2 games and what they like better.
Thanks |

Rockband2 IMHO is a better game.
I love em both though...

There is something I don't about rockband compared to guitar hero. I have a tough time telling the difference between the regular notes and the hammer ons in rockband. Simply cause they look the same, rectangle, only slightly smaller. While in Guitar Hero they are obviously different, and glow, heh.

Check the song list on each game, and see which one has more songs your kids like. That's the only difference that really matters.

I just can't help but think that for all the time and effort you put into mastering either of them, you could actually go out and LEARN to play guitar! Having said that, we will probably get the Beatles edition (I think that's Rock Band.)

Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock is the best guitar hero/rock band ever created, in my opinion. The game is just epic, with an incredible song list. There are a ton of easy songs, yet there are a ton of finger bleeders on there as well. Maybe some of you have heard of the infamous Through The Fire and Flames by Dragonforce, the hardest song to pass in guitar hero/rock band history. I have beaten every song that has been put out by Neversoft or Harmonix (developers of the game), and I love playing new challenges, so Rock Band isn't it. Of course, guitar hero 3 is only playable on the guitar, and not all instruments like both rock bands are. Personally, I find RB2 to be better then GH4, just because of the song lists. However, the hammer-ons and all around structure of GH4 are superior to that of Rock Band's. Guitar Hero is just the funner game to play, just because the notes are easier to hit and the game generally is more resposive.
The Rock Band instruments are terrible, minus the drums. The guitar that comes with all GH beat those of Rock Band. The RB guitar is horrid, and the strum bar is seriously flawed. I bought both games because I'm a HUGE gamer that loves playing music rythm games. I use the RB drums with guitar hero, and my guitar hero guitar with rock band. It;s just a preference, so maybe your kids wont mind. I'm only particular about the guitars because it's mainly the only intstument I play. I play on expert and I go for the best score possible. Your probably not getting it for that reason. Basically, get which ever one your kids want.

If you go into bass mode, And pick a song like Mr. Crowley or Rebel Yell in Hard mode, it is a great excersize. You have to "play" the guitar controller as if you are playing a real bass guitar or classical guitar. In other words, all up storkes alternating between the index and middle fingers of the right hand. Then you could repeat the song and practice alternating between the middle and ring finger, then, index and ring finger. The big challange is alternating with all three fingers. For those who play real guitar, you will see why this is a benifit. I have actually experimented with practining tremolo technique using the pattern, Thumb, ring, middle, index. It acutally works and you could work on even-ness. So GH has those songs with the straight 8th notes on bass.

Just get 'em Dance Dance Revolution and the game mat for the floor. Good "exercise" for the kids, not to mention it's cheaper.
