The ABT Ijet is not compatible with the Nano but Sound Control is. Plus you would have to modify the remote control so you can tell your orientation in your pocket. I use Sound Control in my church, my shows and it is a great purchase.

Sound Control is really neat. I had problems with my iJet holding sync with my iPod. Many performers I hear from are buying a Nano just for their shows: it is cheap enough, it is dedicated to the show, and because it has no internal HD (as the Classic does), it is much more durable on the road. BTW: the instructional video on line on how to turn your laptop into both a music and cue control system is now only $10. See at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWG7dQ-IG7A
A friend just returned from a 48 city tour working clubs and had not a bit of trouble with it.

I have a question, I have been using the WW mp3tech but have been thinking of parting with it simply because its quite expensive and to be honest, I hate the remote for...if they made an easy touch remote or something with grooved buttons (similar to old VSM) where you didn't have to press the buttons so hard or you could hit it from your pocket I might like it more.
Anyways, to be SoundControl question...and forgive because I am not terribly familiar with IPODS.... Do you need a silent track in between each track to prevent it from going to sleep?? EG: TRACK 1 Silent Track 2 Silent Track 3 Silent When you click the 'next track' button, does the song automatically play or do you have to click 'next track' then hit 'play'? Also, how do you recommend fading the track? Would you just click it say 5 times til it fades down THEN have to click it 5 times to get back to level???? Please help? Thx. |

$50.00 for a How To CD? GOTHIKE, you’re are a wealth of information on audio and I’ve really appreciated many of your posts that explain audio issues clearly and provide so much useful information. However, I think your biases here are causing you to sound a bit disingenuous. Your 1st post in response to SoundControl is inaccurate. Jim obviously provides much more than clipart for $100. As the ad states, he is also providing a remote that he has modified himself, 10 magic routines and additional sound F/X. Now, you may still not consider that to be worth $100 but it’s certainly more than ‘just clipart’. Mike Raffone said that Nathan Roberts offers pretty much the same package for $50. Again, obviously not just a ‘How To CD’. I don't own either product and do appreciate that you don't feel they are worth the money but found your less than accurate posts pretty harsh. Btw, Mike Raffone, I couldn’t find the package you talk about on Nathan’s website. Do you know if it’s available online? Thanks, Mike |

Mike (Rockwall),
I just hate to see magicians spend their hard earned cash on information that is already free and well document on this Café. His ad copy mentions a specially moddified remote, which reads that it was altered to allow a cross fade of audio. Most likely Jim glued a bead or something on the remote buttons so you can feel the buttons. But in all honesty, if you need what Jim is offering be my guest. If you are a do it yourself type of person. Do a Search on this Café. Here it is in YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DcLaxk4q4w G0THIKE |

Hi gOthike,
I completely understand that someone who is inclined can put it all together themselves for less money and that was your main point. I was just saying that to say that ALL he was offering was a clipart of numbers was a big disengenous and came across a bit mean spirited. Again though, thanks for all you do offer in the way of very valuable information. |

I purchased the Sound Control from Jim and I am very happy. I purchased an Ipod Nano 4th Generation to go with it. I also purchased a Florida Magic PA system. Jim shows you how to attach the Ipod to the PA system using velcro and I can see what track I am on at anytime. I took photos of my props and the music that I want to play with it and downloaded the photos to itunes. The Sound Control uses radio waves and you don't need to point the remote at the PA system. The remote is very small and I used a black magic marker to make it black ) it is white when you receive it) and I palm it at times during the show. Jim glued little gem like stones to it so you don't need to look at the remote to use it. This was very usefull. It has a pause/play/stop, next, reverse, vol up, and vol down buttons. Jim also includes a bunch of mp3 sound effects. The unit is made by Maxell and the only reason I didn't buy a backup is because it doesn't work with the 5th Generation Ipod. With technology changing all the time I didn't want to invest any more money. I have used remotes for years without any problems. I bought the Ipod from Amazon and I only paid $118 for it because it not the latest model, and it holds 8gb of music, photos, and video. I paid $300 for the PA system. The Sound Control was $97 and the headphone jack was around $10. So for around $550 total I have a great system that is easy to use. I also use the 60 minute silence track so the Ipod doesn't shut off (if left on pause too long an Ipod will shutdown).
The only downside is that Jim demonstrates how he leaves it (the remote) in his pocket and activates it without sticking his hand in his pants. This is a problem for me because I do kid shows and I get down on my knees at times to be at the kids level and with the remote buttons sticking up it has changed songs or come on when I didn't want it to. Once I sat down with it in my pocket and it also started playing a song. So I leave it on the corner of the table and palm it at times. It is only about 1 x 2 inches. On a scale of 1 to 10 ... I give it a solid 9. Mike |

This is a very simple system ... but you know what? ... It works wonderfully. I am extremely pleased how nicely this is to use. The remote is extremely responsive even accross some distance. I now have this hooked up to an iPod Nano Velcro'd on a battery operated Roland Cube Street. There is nothing further to hook up. I just walk in, turn the amp on ... and I'm good. I've purchased extra remotes which I have also Velcro'd into props and on side tables ... this way I'm easily able to trigger a sound cue or adjust volume just about anywhere without drawing attention.

I'm also very happy with mine.
I like keeping things small and simple. If you're using the sound system belonging to the venue, then with an ipod and Sound Control you have your entire sound system in your pocket steve |

I just received my Sound Control and I really do like it. My only disappointment is more with the Ipod itself than with the Sound Control System. I have a newer generation Ipod that displays the album artwork AND information about the track being played. So, when I use the track numbering artwork Jim supplies with Sound Control, the track number doesn't completely fill the screen. I've tried to find something on the internet that would help me get around this issue, but with no success. It isn't like you still can't see the track number ... it just isn't as large and easy to spot from a distance.
In any event, Sound Control is a simple and relatively inexpensive way to gain control of your sound without having the need for assistants, sound people, etc. Maybe down the line we will be able to have a remote that allows the performer to easily select any track at any time. That would be really great, but would probably require a different type of remote. By the way, Sound Control comes with a lot of extras, including the all-important "blank tracks". I'd created my own tracks and they work ok, but these are already done and ready to go. Nice product. |

I don't know if this is the proper forum thread, but I'd like to know which speaker system people use most often for auditorium-type work. I do a lot of work in small auditoriums, such as in schools. I've read a lot about the Carvin Stagemate as well as the EON systems, by (I think) JBL. What are you guys using?

I am interested in purchasing this system. What generation Ipod works best with it. If anyone knows I would appreciate the information.
Thanks Jef

Jef, Sound Control works with the Classic iPod or the 3rd or 4th generation iPod Nano. (The current Nano, 5th generation with the camera built-in, and the iPod Touch will not work with Sound Control.)
I have found an iJet Remote that works with the 5th generation iPod Nano and iPod Touch. It's called the iJet NAV. The only downsides to using it is that you have to modify the audio cable you use with the iPod if you use a Nano because the receiver is too close to the audio out jack. (I bought my iJet NAV from Value Outfitters and they can provide a modified cable. I didn't know about that when I bought it so I didn't get one and did my own mod.) The other thing is you don't get the art and instructions that Jim provides but the iJet does the same things. Michael |

Thanks Michael!
I am really not looking for the remote, I just want to get my pre-show music off CD and on to an Ipod with the big numbers so it is easier to see outside.

Like Bagwiz above, I find that the space allocated to the artwork on the Ipod isn't large enough. If there was a way for it to fill the screen - that would be a whole lot better. I'm not knocking any particular system here, as I don;t have "a system". But I thought I'd try and knock one up myself. If there's no way to increase the image size on the Ipod screen, then there's no point in taking the iPod route as far as I'm concerned. If you can cope with an image that's 20mm x 20mm then you don't have a problem.
I'm using an Ipod Classic. Maybe the image is bigger on the Ipod Nano? Regards, DCB

Jef - Look on the first page of this thread, and scroll down to my post. In it, there's a link to an explanation of how to add your own artwork to iTunes so they'll show up on the iPod.

Jeff, the problem isn't getting the artwork into ITunes for each track ... the problem is having it display on the full screen in the IPod Classic. On the latest generations of that model, the album artwork shares the screen with other song information. So the album artwork appears; just not as big as if it filled the entire screen. I thought there may be a get-around for this and have searched various IPod sites ... to no avail.
