I seem to be experiencing an unusually high ratio of bursts.. and that's not even the ones brsting due to tight twisting.
I understand there's a date on the bag - I use Qualatex 260Q, new stock to me - but unless the date is coded, there's no date.
Perhaps it's Sempertex that have the date on?
Anyway - I have a busrting ratio of around one in 6 or seven straight out the bag. Room temperature, no static involved, using either a hand pump or mouth, my hands seem ok, I don;t use powder or gloves. Some of these go on the first twist, or perhaps even before the first twist, with no stress..
I always stretch the balloons well before inflation.

Can anyone point me to a possible reason for this? Or better still - a solution?

Apart from that, I think I'm now making progress with the 6 petal flower... Smile

Thanks in advance..

If you're having trouble with six petal flower few things that may help.Burp the balloon a bit more making it "soft" so that there is extra room in the balloon.Or You can go with 2 260s and make 6 petals.4 balloon petals were what I would do a lot since I also had problems with my 6 popping. There are a ton of different flower designs that deviate from the "normal" 4-6 petal flower.Balloonhq.

The six petal thing was a different problem. I now realise that the balloon has to be VERY soft..
I'll have a look at the two balloon version.. sounds like to could be workable..

Tks!

There is a sneaky little coded date on the bag. I have to thank Balloon Guy Mike for showing me this.
Underneath the UPC code and underneath the Made In Canada, there is a series of letters followed by 5 numbers. Those 5 numbers represent the creation date.
For example, if the numbers are 09058, that means the balloons were created in 2009 on the 58th day.
On the 6 petal flower, I find it easier to leave a inch and a half tail, tie the tip of the tail to the nozzle. Then squeeze the balloon so that the air disperses evenly. Works better than a good burp. Still give it a little burp too.

Hmmm..

I'm assuming the UPC code is the bar code. Now - the bar code on the bags I have is possibly different from yours.
It's on a paper sticker, stuck on a white panel, approx two thirds of the way down the RHS of the bag, looking at it from the front.
The one I have in my hand states - Qty: 100 79699, then the description and quantity, then the bar code, and underneath, the digits.
I've checked the digits with the UPC code database, and it's not registered.

I think that the paper sticker is maybe peculiar to certain countries...

Can't see any other references on the bag.

Qualatex. Not Sempertex.

Yeah, no paper sticker on mine. Below the bar code it says
Made in Canada
ELB CB ED 09174

That is Qualatex. I've never heard of Sempertex until now.
Any chance there is something under the sticker?
Guess I'm stumped on this one.
But if the popped balloons are coming from the same bag, you may have a bad batch.
The only other thing I can think of is that you are tying them too tightly causing a small tear.
Good luck!

I switched from Qualitex to Bettalaex, (Sempertex in the US), because of all of the breakage I was having with Qualitex. Especially with the dark colors. Bellatex seem to be a lot thicker and have worked better for me.

There's nothing under the sticker. Just a white panel, ready to take the country of destination sticker, it looks like.

Ok, I'll maybe try another supplier..

Thanks!

Strange.. did a show today, only did around 60 basic models, and experienced about 5 or six bursts. This is a big improvement! 3 of those were solid black.

Interesting.

Let's see how it goes tomorrow...

Black has a tendency to break more than any other color. I was told it's because it gets it's color from carbon black.

Just did another small balloon session after my main show - around 30 easy models - only had one burst on me. I wonder now if it's the temperature, (cool today, warmer yesterday).. or something else.
Any way up, the bursting tendency has reduced. Only time will tell....

Regards, and thanks again.

In regards to black...

The Qualatex black, called "Onyx Black" is a "Jewel Tone" balloon. As such, it is subject to more breakage. I don't use any any Jewel Tone balloon except Jeweled Magenta which I use to make a jewel on top of a crown. I prefer Qualatex for the standard and fashion colors. However, for black I use Bettalatex. I find it is a sturdier balloon than the Qualatex black.

As soon as my current stock of metallic balloons runs out, I want to experiment with the Bettalatex metallic because I think they may be less translucent than the Qualatex.

As all of you know, the cooler the balloons are helps prevent them from bursting. They have a higher chance to burst this time of the year. You might want to keep the balloons stored in a small thermo cooler with ice. It will keep the balloons cool of the heat and humility while traveling. Keep the balloons in the cooler until you are ready to blow them up.

I do not think it is in the color that makes the balloons burst. I think it is in how the color was made. I am picturing when the employees are making any color, at times they are not using the right amount of chemicals to make the rubber strong enough. When the employee are ignoring the right procedure, the whole batch of whatever color they are making have thinner rubber. I say this because I have had trouble with all colors throughout my history. At times it can be a whole bag of weak yellow balloons. When I buy again, the yellow might be perfect, but have a lot of weak red ones. I varies thru all colors, depending how the batch of colors were made.

Send the bags of frequently bursting balloons to Qualatex. If it is a batch problem they will replace the balloons.

One problem with sending them back is the postage fee. You will have to pay for both trips. Who knows if they will send back a good batch. Those are the reasons I never send mine back. But if the problem was too bad, I would take the bag back to the store I purchased them from for a replacement.

Here is their "Satisfaction Guaranteed."

It looks like I was wrong about you must pay the shipping to receive the replacement. But you are right, "never know until you try."
