Can we live without money?
Hmmm...
It appears as if increasing numbers of us are having to LEARN to.

I define the concept living without money to mean exactly what is says. NO money, which in turn means NO bartering, and no living off any body elses money. All of that is cheating.

So the experiment would be taking a person, with only the clothes on his back and dropping him in the middle of a forest or desert, or farmland, whatever and let him have it. See if he has the resources to hunt, fish, & gather (safe and non-poisonous plants). Serve as a doctor to his own illness & injuries, whatever.

In then end, there are very very very few people that can truly survive without any support of any kind. Watch 'Survivorman' and see how difficult it is to survive a week and he's give a few supplies! I think the rest of us are dreaming if we think we can do it. Smile

I took a stone age survival class. I wouldn't even need to bring a knife, I'll just make one out of a rock Smile
That being said, I wouldn't WANT to live without money. I love my electric guitar and gym membership too much.

You can barter with many things, not just money!
How do you think the carrot farmers got potatoes and the potato farmers got carrots years ago?
Admittedly this is a simplified equation, but you know what I mean.
If you've got it,you can flog it!It's the ability to sell above the market value, yet buy below, that guarantees survival!
The similarities between the medieval system and the capitalist model are strikingly obvious!

Two people can live on the same amount of money as one.

Just half as long.

it's the little things in life that are most important. John Lennon's song imagine is a perfect example of how we can live life without possessions.

Another perfect example is the book and film" Into the Wild"

How do you pay for internet access?

I don't, I love my libary card Smile
From looking at the times you have posted, you are not being honest about your internet connection.

Assuming Tom actually knew the timezone from which McAllisterMagic was posting. Sure it was early morning our time, but maybe he's overseas?

I don't know.... If someone barters (work for food, or whatever) and can stay alive, then yes, it is ****ible for a person to live without money. To me, it is not cheating. Yes, someone else paid for what is sustaining him, but the individual is still living without money.

Guess someone should've asked, "What do you mean by 'living without money?' Smile
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I remember reading about a woman living off free samples for food and free cleaning supply samples.

Nope. Unless he's on vacation, he's Mountain Standard.

I agree with John and the Bald one....a fellow with no income at all would likely be either traveling overseas or on a vacation.

I guess it all depends on ones defenition of the word living. I believe that it might be possible to exist without money. But to live life without money is not in my opinion possible.

Since coming across this post I have found an interesting article from the Guardian Newspaper, it may be of interest to anyone who is curious to know if it is possible to live without money.

Here's the link:
