Who invented the knots off silk effect? And, then who gets the credit for the blendo version of the effect?

That would have been Pavel Pomezny, AKA Pavel, who invented the Knots off Silk. Part of this was based on an idea by Jean Hugard.

I can't comment on the blendo version, but the chances are, Pavel had something to do with this as well. He invented a number of different blendo effects.

Thanks So much. I just wanted to know who to credit to for the effect. I do the blendo version and it always gets great response.

I seem to recall that credit was given for the knots off silk to a fellow Czech: Trinka

Certainly Pavel is a name to associate with the effect. However, I think the comedy version (cut out holes) were his real contribution. It is also very popular without the holes for magicians who put it into a routine with body loads.

Audiences do love it.

Try researching Chinese Egg Bag and you should find it.

Otherwise, there was an old "Magic Hen" routine in which eggs rolled out of a hank into a hat and then the hat was shown empty. I remember it from a magic book in the school library back in the 50s.

The Chinese Egg Bag is in Tarbell.

I have a feeling that "Utter Simplicity" is a name someone hung on the trick so they could sell it to unsuspecting purchasers.

This year I lost my old friend Pavel (Pavel Pomezny). And he is missed. One of the neatest things he taught me about Knots-Off Silk is using the pro-model that unties the false knot and slides down the silk with complete control and only uses one hand. All of the foam (ponytail holder) models require two hands to untie the knot and slide the ring down the silk. There is a huge difference in presentation well worth the difference.

If you are doing a show with live music, the drummer can help by adding sound effects when the knot slides off to the floor.
