I just got my website up ( http://www.mumblemoremagic.com - any comments/critiques appreciated). The next challenge would seem to be getting search engine optimization and figuring out how to navigate Google Ads. Can anyone recommend "consultants" who might offer a few hours to explain this and set me up to the point where I can take it from there?

By the way, I have a great web site designer who is also very cheap (less than $500 for the page). PM me if you want his contact info.

Thanks.

Sorry I don't know any consultants to recommend for SEO, although I agree that is the appropriate next step.

For what it is worth, some comments on your website. Overall I would say it is very good. Maybe an A-. Navigation, layout, etc is very clean.

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. The picture of you and the kids at the bottom of your home page with the giant wand is fantastic! It says it all. However, at least on my monitor, I couldn't see it until I scrolled down. I also think your home page (and about mumblemore) are a bit wordy. My suggestion would be to reduce the number of words on your home page (much of the detail is covered under "about mumblemore" and get that picture up where everyone will see it right off.

You use the term Bethesda-based and underlined it. Underlining is problematic as one wonders if it is a link. Which it isn't. Also, using hypenated words could cause a search engine to pass over what is a really key word.

Testimonials are great. Could use more white space on the margins and author's name right justified to make them "feel" more like quotes.

About Mumblemore - first paragraph is way too long. Should be broken up. I think your first sentence on that page should be a one sentence summary of who you are and how you position yourself -- before you jump into the detail. Unless you are targeting affluent customers only, calling yourself a "highly educated professional" may be intimidating to some customers. It is obvious from your list of credentials. Doesn't need to be stated. "Professional" would be good enough. Not sure your 25-year hiatus needs to be mentioned. Is there a way you can more specifically state on this page what region, cities, etc you cover? I am not familiar with your area and the geographic terms commonly used there but this is a key thing for the search engines (and your customers). Imagine in your mind what someone looking for entertainment for a birthday party would google. "Magic <location name>" or "Birthday entertainment <location name>". Also the word "Magician" is underutilized on your website. This could impact searching. I understand the "Wizard" branding, but most people will search for "Magician" not "Wizard".

Whenever you say "contact me" it should hyperlink to your email or your contact page and wherever you have your email address it should be a mailto hyperlink (it isn't on the contact page).

Hi Raven,

Many thanks for the constructive criticism. I will set about changing what I can promptly.

Regards,

Todd

Several colleagues on the Café have asked who designed this site with five pages for slightly less than $500. The designer, Jeremy Lupoli, did a fantastic job. He is becoming quite proficient at magician pages, and is available at:

While the page looks great, it is very poorly made when it comes to search engine optimization.

If you want to see some effective SEO work, go to this link. Everything circled in red is one of my pages, things circled in green are sites where I am listed.

This screen shot was taken about 10 minutes ago of Google's first page using the search phrase:

Raleigh Magician

If the screen shot looks fuzzy, enlarge it to 100%

Please note I am:
1) First in the Adwords
2) First in Local Listings
3) First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, an Tenth in the natural listings
4) I am listed on sites that are Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth - putting me on EVERY natural listing link.

There is limited SEO work you can do w/o knowing HTML & CSS. You can google it. Please understand your SEO influence will be extremely limited by your lack of knowledge of HTML & CSS.

Can you find anyone close to this? I currently do a basic reworking of web sites for $100/page with a 4 page minimum. You should get on or close to the first page of a local search (i.e. City & Magician) within 2 months, but is is often in weeks. I have had brand new sites get on top in 2 days.
