Looks like I've managed to locate a Wonder Box... without any instructions...
Just wondered if it's written up anywhere.. or if there are any unusual routines around? Tks! DCB

DCB,
I did a quick google search on "demon wonder box" but didn't come up with anything. Not sure if this is the same wonderbox, but Duane Laflin published a DVD entitled Wonderbox Repeat. It shows a complete routine, set-up, and in-depth instruction. I got mine from Lockfamilymagic.com, but they are closed until fall. You might try Laflinmagic.com to get Duane's contact info. Doug |

Hi DCB:
Doug is correct - the Wonderbox and Demon Wonder Box are the same thing. I believe the "demon" part comes from Davenports where they used the "demon" name for some of their things. In addition to the sources Doug mentions, you can also see a demo of Mikame doing his wooden box version. I'm pretty sure it's on youtube. Other than that, I'm not aware of any routines, but I'm sure they're out there. Ron |

Jim Steinmeyer published a routine called "Phun with Physics" which uses this prop.
(He called it a "Demon Hank Box", but I assume it's the same thing. Small, upright box you hold in your hand, has front and back doors which open downward, and an opening in the top.) You can find it in his book, "The Conjuring Anthology" or order the July 1998 issue of MAGIC magazine, where the routine was originally published. I think it's a nice routine, one I've considered doing for awhile. Steinmeyer mentions that "Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic" has something on the prop, and also David Bamberg's routine in volume 6 of Tarbell (where the box is "disguised" as a microphone).

OK, this is the same box that is on Duane Laflin's DVD. However, the one Duane demonstrates has a bit of an enhancement to it, which he explains in detail, and why it is better than a 'regular' wonderbox.
If I remember correctly, his routine involves a story about going to see a fellow at a local fair. He ends up producing a red silk on 5 different occasions. He then places all 5 back in, and finishes up by producing a 16 foot streamer. He then can pass it out for examination. It's a slick routine. doug |

Demon was the logo for Davenport's in London. Some Wonderboxes had two chambers and others only a single. If you PM me I can walk you through the basic handling.

Duane's story was similar to what Blackstone Sr. did with it. The story was about a lot of different color dresses for the assistants.
There were a lot of different manufacturers made of the wonder box. Davenports made the first but there were a lot of other manufacturers. Some with slip out gimmicks. Some with second loads. Some are pretty big also. Most the of the ones you find now were made in India and are a little on the small side. Richard
