I recently saw a picture of this illusion on a used magic site, but I'm not familiar with it. Does anyone know the original manufacturer? Is the illusion proprietary? If so, who owns the rights to it? Has anyone performed with this type of illusion? If so, are there any insights you can provide about set-up, tear down and performance limitations? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Looks like a variation on the Indian Basket (look at rolling base here) with swords and flames instead of down spear.

Here is a similar one that I found. It is called "Bamboo Basket" by Fairchild Entertainment. Look under area called "Illusions" on their web site.

Personally, I would stay away from Snap until they figure things out about thier promos on youtube. They show pics of the props instead of actually showing what the props look like in action. I questioned them why they did just pictures and not a full routine and this was thier response:
Thank you for your comment. This is the first step we are doing until we get all of the videos complied. Each illusion will be replaced with a video for that item. As they say " a picture is worth a thousand words". Bryan Website Administrator This was back in December 2008. Are you trying to tell me that they can't produce the videos or won't do the proper thing and show what the illusions should look like in action???? |

Hmmm .... to me, this looks more like a Tora Illusion than Snap or Fairchild. But even with that info, many of my initial questions still remain unanswered. Is this illusion proprietary? If so, is this an authorized version of the illusion? Has anyone performed it?

Hi Kent -
I poked around the Tora website (based on the link someone provided above), and it appears to be their "Fire and Swords Pyramid" (on the illusions page. Item ID T 1610.) It is one of their photos that you posted. I don't know if the pyramid style of sword basket / indian basket is fair game (there are several dealers who have made that style over the years), but it is my understanding that the concept of the sword basket / indian basket is public domain for builders. - Donald

Hi Donald,
Thanks for the confirmation. By the way, I was on Vancouver Island yesterday. Sorry I didn't get a chance to give you a call. It was a very rushed trip to pick up Martin Nash's remains and some of his belongings. These items will be brought down to the Magic Castle for the memorial celebration. Anyways, thanks again for your help. Kent

I am happy to be of help.
Sorry to hear that your visit to the island wasn't under better circumstances. I met Martin a couple of times over the past few years up in the Parksville area, and remembered him from when I was a child, as I watched him on Saturday mornings on Dale Harney's "Magic Palace" TV show. - Donald

Back to the illusion; In a catalog from the 60's I remem
ber seeing a similar looking prop. The item was called something like Grants sword pyramid (maybe not Grants;it is possible the word Inca was in the title) It was inexpensive and sat on the floor not a base.Diagrams only in those days;but it looked like a pyramid with no top. Instead of getting in it the assistant got under it. |
