I am a solo clown who does many birthday shows and outreaches and please need your advice on the best means of getting my show into a venue in one trip.Is a rollon better than a suitcase?
If I go for a rollon does anyone have any plans they can send me as it would have to be custom built here in South Africa Thanks Mike |

Mike.
It all depends how much stuff you want to put in it. If your putting quite a lot of magic and props for any occasion then a Roll on will be good. If just mix & Mingle then a small case on wheels would do the job. I have one from B&Q , its painted red green and blue, and holds 4 magic tricks, Spinning Plates, Diablo, small give-aways, balloons and pump, and there is still room for more stuff. It is similar to this but not this one. http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?ac......rch=true

Mike,
I have a suitcase table that is similar to Joe Lefler's. I made my own because I wanted it to be a bit different. Sometimes that is the extent of my show except for my sound system. However, other times I will carry a carry on suitcase which contains my curtain and a few other props, my jetset curtain stand, and sometimes also my levitation which is another big box. Sometimes also a street table if I'm doing my adult show. Still, I can do all this with one trip because of my secret weapon: a cart! I bought a cart from guitar store and it has changed my life and been one of my best investments. The cart breaks down small and expands to fit more if needs be. That way I don't care like I used to if I don't have the best parkign spot in the world anymore and I can now do it in one trip. The only thing I now dread are stairs! Jim

Vermont Garden Carts:
https://carts.cartsvermont.com/product.p......3&page=1 Make a wooden folding cover, add a tablecloth and decorations, and don't worry about stairs. For Do-It-Yourselfers, it's made from small bicycle wheels and a box.

My good friend Steve Z turned me on to the Rock & Roller. For larger venues and when you bring a lot of props this cant be beat. It is one of the best non-magic investments that I've made. I used to have to make 4 trips into a school, now I can do it in one. I LOVE my Rock & Roller!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have worked out a routine that fits into a brief case. Several magicians have. It means one journey - even if I have to bring in my PA system. It also allows me to fly with my entire show as hand luggage.

When I arrive at the venue, I meet with the contact person and find the correct room for the show, bringing in my tray stand at the same time. I bring in a plastic tote, that I use as a prop case, in the second trip. I can bring the tray stand and the tote in the same trip, if I bungee cord the stand to the tote. I like using a tote, because I'm not ducking behind it to get props out, like I would with a suitcase table.

I've been using a collapsible hand truck for 25 years. I swear by them. Especially when you have to go up and down stairs, they have a "stair jumping" device that makes it a lot easier. For about a year now, I've been using a golf club bag that has built in wheels. It has the added advantage of providing added protection from the elements. Unfortunately, because it's not as stiff as the hand truck, dragging it around puts a little extra wear and tear on the body. One of my goals is to have a show in a brief case. I walk in with the briefcase and a tripod and the briefcase snaps onto the tripod and becomes a table. I have the briefcase/table and the tripod, I just don't have a show that fits. In the meantime, my show is defined by what will fit on a hand truck or golf bag, IN ONE TRIP.

I bought a cart at Home Depot for about $80.... fat tires, holds 2 footlockers, Anchor sound system, tripod, stand. very sturdy and I can pull it and maneuvers pretty well up and down hills.
How do you guys control the Rock n Rollers if you have an incline? thanks |
