I have a couple of those masks for costume effects. I actually had the flu about a week or so ago and threw one on so I could go to the store without being a Typhoid Mary. I was getting a lot of looks and I just attributed it to going around in a surgical mask... until someone came up and asked if I was okay. I explained why I had a mask on, she seemed to consider that, I was just about ready to walk away when she says "Yeah but what about the blood?" I paused and remembered that this was a mask for a "psycho-surgeon" type look... it had bloody handprints and splatters on it to match the lab coat I had made.

I finally explained all that as well, after I stopped laughing. Thank goodness it was October, I can pretend that I have these things because of Halloween!

Also, wear a mask during your performances in order to prevent the spread of H1N1 ...

Five Ways Magicians Can Avoid H1N1

1) Never shake the spectator's hand. But if you do, use some anti-bacterial lotion and call it "magic lotion"

2) Don't let the spectator pick a card and return it to the deck. Instead, have them point to it from a distance.

3) Never borrow bills or coins. Carry and use your own.

4) Instead of using silk for silk effects use anti-bacterial wipes.

and speaking of flash paper

5) One good flash of fire will kill thousands of nasty germs. So perform a flash paper effect after every effect.

Oh, by the way, I keep my flash paper in a card wallet.

Wow never knew so many people woried about flash paper effects

I have never asked the management and I perform effects with it on the regular basis each night at my gig.

I of course am very careful and never take chances but a flash of fire is a great opener and easy way to start at a new table.

as for carrying flash paper I cut it tot he sizer I will use and then jsut put it in my jacket pocket- done

I also use flash string and flash cotten for other effects at the restaurants.

the key is to be smart and careful in every situation regardless wheather it be with falsh paper or knives or handcuffs or what ever.

have fun

fire good!
