I could sing the praises of Kenton Knepper's "Killosal Killer" all night.
Predict any playing card a spectator is thinking of, by pulling it out of your wallet. Of course, it isn't completely impromptu, but if you use the wallet everyday anyway like I do, with a few modifications to the method, it feels impromptu to me and the spectators. That's what I am going for anyway, that impromptu feeling.
Best of luck to you.
Eric

Edit - Whoops. Missed the 2006 - present criteria. I still stand by this post though. Minus that detail. haha Sorry.

Cold Reading would be good, maybe disguised as Palm Reading or Astrology.

If it's truly impromptu, I have nothing, much of the time. I may borrow 4 objects, a pen and paper for a equivoque effect. If handed a dog-eared deck, I may perform Eugene Burger's Psychic Sense. If I'm handed a decent deck, I may perform my three phase routine, which has revelations of peeked cards, a card change and the revelation of some mental selections.

Some consideration should be given to Paul Carnazzo's "Test Conditions". With one small laminated card you have a mini routine , 5 stages. Quite clever frankly. He also has 2 other mentalisim effects, but this packs the biggest bang for your magical dollars IMHO.

If you carry business cards with you (and why shouldn't you!) You should try Max Mavens Desire from the Blue Book of Mentalism
