I apparently slept through a pretty good display this morning.

Local photographer Zoltan Kenwell took these shots.

He's good.

Really nice and peaceful when they are low on the horizon.

Most all I saw while living in Alaska were high in the sky and spectacular...but these are moody. Thanks John.

There's no sight like them. So many times, they seemed as if they were moving. Never will forget the night that Cherie and I took a wrong turn somewhere between Tok and Anchorage, and saw those lights dancing about us.

We were fortunate enough to see them last month when driving back from Edmonton. There wasn't very much color, mostly white. But the way it danced & flickered across the sky was incredible.

Thanks for linking to these pictures.

Tok! Holy crap. Pulled into Tok Junction middle of the night...on a snow machine in the Midnight Sun 600 Race...70 below!!!!!!!...couldn't see a thing...pulled up to a trailer and when they opened the door the whole interior went POOF into fog as the cold hit the warm. THAT was cold.

70 Freakin' BELOW ZERO! And people live there! Not to mention idiots who race through it on a snow machine from Anchorage to Fairbanks...in the Dead of winter and dark of night!!!.

I didn't catch it, but I heard great things about your show. I hope you had a good time in Edmonton.

It's a very sore spot with me that every time the Northern Lights appear I have to read about it the next day rather than seeing for myself. It's not like I go to bed early or that I'm never outside. It's just a matter of coincidence that I ALWAYS miss the event.

Here. Check out this map in the evening to improve your chances of seeing auroras.

John

(We're lucky here in Edmonton, as a physicist at the University of Alberta has set up an automated email "aurora watch" alert.)

Thanks for that link. From that map it seems I have no chance of seeing anything tonight. Oh well.
