Without giving too much detail, there seems to be a significant flaw in this one.
Suppose the first two cards in the fan are the same suit? (It will happen 1/4 of the time, statistically.) And that puts you in a very awkward position. Any "outs"? |

Hi DoctorAmazo:
(Just a thought) If this happens, just come up with some additional patter and have them give the deck a complete cut, then proceed.... Warmest regards, Sixten |

Take one of them out of the fan. Act as if you're not sure. Now pull out the card that fits to the new combination on top. Finally put the wrong card back, saying something like "I'm not sure, but I think this one should do", as you put the prediction card on the table.

Use third and fourth card. After dealing two piles, discard both top cards "to make things fair".

Ive always found a better presentation for this trick is to remove the mate cards of the ones they will choose. If its a pair then just remove the other two of the same value.

You have the same problem if the top two cards (or the third and fourth cards if you use that method)have the same value. Statistically doesn't happen near as often, but it is nice to be ready when it does. I usually have them cut the cards again. If the problem remains, and sometimes it does, then I have the top card removed and placed in the deck.

As an out for the top two cards "not working," how about using the bottom two cards and then modifying the rest of the trick to finish accordingly?

Have the guest shuffle the deck.
Look through it for your 'prediction card'. If either of the top two cards have the same suit (or value), then immediately hand it back to the guest saying, "Oops. To be fair, every shuffle must be followed with a fair cut. I forgot to tell you to cut the deck." Once the deck is cut, look through it again. If there are identical suits or values in the top two cards AGAIN, then use the suggestion already given and compare the next few cards down. If none of those cards are appropriate, then accept that the planets are lined up against you and don't bother buying those lottery tickets later on either. Hope this helps. Mick

I love this effect. I do it with an extra large deck or jumbo deck.
If I come up with the same suits as the first two cards, I just have the deck cut again saying " I can't find my card, the cards are so big to hold. . . would you cut the deck again. . ." This makes sense since most people never get to handle a jumbo deck, and spreading them is more difficult. The cut is just to help you find your prediction easier, and makes sense at this point to the audience member. If you use a jumbo deck, it is quite more visible, and just seems that much more impossible. Dan

All good ideas. I never really considered it a major problem though as I have taken the deck and if the top 2 cards were not right, I would just give the deck another cut myself. It never aroused suspicion.
You must remember, the spectators NEVER know what you are doing or what is going to happen. A good example of making the "move", and no one being aware is Dean Dill's "Blizzard", I never thought I would get away with that! Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

When I perform the effect I hand the cased deck to the spectator and NEVER touch the cards, hence the title "Untouched". The spectator does ALL of the work, including removing the prediction.

I would like you to PM your method, as it sounds very difficult glimpsing the top cards when spec. is holding the deck, maybe not, but I would like to see it ok?

It is an exercise in audience management. You must give clear, concise instructions to the spectator. I'll PM you.

I like this trick very much, I often do this
When two first card "not working", I say to the spectator "Ouups, I forget about cutting the cards!" and spectator cut the deck. When two first cards again not match, I say "Uuuu did you cut the deck your right hand? Noooo, noo, you must cut card your left hand". Any idea is good Regards |

I'd just cut the deck while looking for the prediction. I do the same thing when doing a cull and no one calls me on it. No explanation is needed.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I think this is worth some discussion. This follows on from a thread I started in Secret Sessions. I'm not having a credit b*tch. Just want to get some history chat going as it can be quite fruitful if done without animosity.
