I am looking for a person that can turn out out an Egg Vase that will fit a plastic Egg. It does not have to be made of exotic wood. I would rather have it painted Red. It just has to work properly as a spectator will hold the apparatus.
Any wood turners on the Café? |

Check with Eric Hansen, who has an on-line "shop" on our site:
http://magicnook.com/EricHansen/EricHansen.htm It will kill him to paint one of his beautiful natural wood products red, but he can do it if sufficiently prodded.

Thank you very much for the reference. As I indicated, I am looking for a working Egg Vase, not something to set on a shelf or desk. I will get used very hard and needs to perform. That is what I suggested by the spectator will hold the vase in her/his hand.
I am off to check out his site! |

Ditto. My search has also turned up no one serving the middle market.

Also check with Angelo Iafrate (Cafe ID angeloturn or Angeloturn). You did not mention if you also need the ball vase type "gimmick", but Angelo's the guy who could do that.

Yes, Michael, need the whole trick, other wise it would only be good for eating soft boiled eggs.
I think the title indicates that as well. I have a Comedy Egg Vase Fall-a-Part Tray, I wish to use it with in a routine. So it may wind up on the floor sometimes. |

Well, there are actually routines that accomplish much the same effect that don't use a gimmick. Where there's a will there's a way!
I asked because the gimmick is the hardest part to turn. Not all wood turners can do that precision work. I know Angelo can. He makes Morrison Pill Boxes, Ball Vases, Egg Vases, Billiard Ball Sets, and I've even see a perfect replica of a Tarbell Orange Vase that he did. Check his website, and try not to drool on your keyboard!

Michael, the Comedy Egg Tray comes with a plastic ungimmicked egg vase without top. I wanted to add a regualar Magic Egg Vase to facilitate some of the moves and vanishing and appearing of the egg. There are not many good ways to vanish an egg and have it re-appear when a spectator is standing next to you.
It uses light weight plastic eggs and I would like it to fit my plastic eggs. there would be any number of eggs in play at the same time, but the audience would only be aware of one. By using a Magic Egg Vase, then it is possible to lead them on an adventure. I guess the best thing is to by buy 6 Magic Egg Vases and throw the Egg Bases away except for 2, 1 to work with the trick and another as back up. It is just that the egg that comes with the trick has a seam around the middle of the egg and I did not like that it is apparent the it is not real. Thanks for the advice. |

If so, you may be able to find some that you could paint, that would fit the vase. If that works, paint the gimmick to match. For that matter, you might even be able to find a real egg and work with it.

Michael, you just reminded me of a wonderful gag vanish, Bob Little does as his "Wiz" character. Remember his Soda Cracker vanish. That just may be a funny thing to do with the egg. Thanks!

I'm also on the hunt for a mass-produced egg vase.
I showed an Indian-made ball vase to a wood worker friend to ask him if he could alter it. He pointed out though he might be able to deepen the base to accommodate an egg, that the egg I showed him was too wide for the vase. Whoops! Happy to spend a hundred bucks, but not the very reasonable prices for these gorgeous, individual pieces linked above. Thanks!

So here's a fun magic story:
I go to the first word turner I find when I google that phrase in here in San Francisco, and this quiet Indian man answers the door. He's got a very busy workshop full of projects in various stages. When I explain that it's a magic prop, he asks me if I know the late Dr. Bob Albo! It turns out Dr. Albo used to bring him things to repair/work on. Small world.
