I am looking for a really good(clean)count for counting 10 bills as six. Any ideas.

Steve,
I guess it all depends. Are you talking in a close-up, parlor or stage setting? I just took ten bills and counted them singly from hand to hand and did a block push off on the count of 5 and it looked fine and I was just a few feet in front of a mirror. And, the action looked like the natural way I would count money. Glenn

Eric Mead uses a card counting technique that could be adapted to bills. you'll have to search for it.

Correctons:
Hornswoggled is by George Starke, not Michael Ammar. It is published in the $10 book "My Best", this effect is worth the price of the book. Don't forget to learn the Dick Tracy card effect also published in this book. You will stun your spectators. Hornswoggled is so good Jay Malbrough used it for years as the resident magician at the Forks Hotel, and added a surprising climax to it, in his book, "Magic of the Forks Hotel". https://www.mymagic.com/p/books/magic-of......albrough |

Now that is going to be confusing, calling it the Gypsy Switch, as there is already a little known bill switch already called by that name. Michael Ammar uses it in his Bill in Peanut routine. I first heard of it, with the "Bill to Key case" effect. It uses a scarf or hanky. Has nothing to do with counting bills, for a short change routine.
You should maybe call your version the Gypsy Short Change of something like that. |

I agree with Bill that there is already a "gypsy switch", the one I found is in Elliott's "The best in magic" p52. It uses a silk to switch flat objects like coins - it sounds similar to what Bill describes.

For sale is an entire routine.the GYPSY SWITCH title refers to an envelope switch (that follows the bill count) an authentic gypsy device, that completes the routine, shown to the author in the 70's by jules debarros which appeared in his lecture notes at that time, impossible to find now...the title doesn't refer to the short count...there's more than one gypsy switch...

Well, there shouldn't be more then one Gypsy Switch, you need to distinguish one from the other, as people will not know what you are referring to by just the name. The one we referred to, predates yours, so you have to find another name. And being it is not envelopes we are talking about in this forum, you should find another name, or use the originators name in the title, as in, "Gypsy Switch by Jules Debarros". I hope you got permission from Jules DeBarros to publish is work.

Do you know any armenian gypsies? I do.among their lot it's a general term.there's the gypsy switch with the eggs(blood in the yoke or a tiny bird skull),the envelopes, the newspaper packets, the wallet down the front of the pants, the rings, the handkerchiefs, the candles, the boiling water, the boodle and a host of others.nobody owns it.my aim was to let steve see the count in case it suited his purpose.have PMed him with a better solution that pleases him.to that end your comments were of no help...please don't respond.we're done...

I just spoke w/jon racherbaumer.he published a routine in an early 70's hierophant by eddie fields. fields got it from a carny named "pins" in the 40's and it was called gypsy switch,a coin in hank bit...rach assures me that by now the term has fallen into public domain and you can look for a long shelf life, the meaning being the substitution of one item for a lesser one.like bait-and-switch.it pleases jon to be able to supplement your education.we both feel that your talents as a teacher of ethics might be better utilized on the chinese...for a time I was perhaps jules debarros' best friend.sadly,he was a troubled soul but did outstanding sleight-of-hand and was a deep thinker...he gave to me w/a largess that no one can comprehend...the Café member participation seems down, perhaps because they tire of other members who attempt to ,unwittingly, initiate petty squabbles.will rogers said "it's better to know nothing than to know what ain't so." ...your above posts contain a slight element of bullying and(despite my sincere request) it appears you need to have the last word.my feeling is,this forum is for the sharing of all things magical ,not lecturing people or by being the rule/word police(your posts have typos)..try to keep the 11th commandment "thy shalt not takes thyself too seriously."...steve needed a bill count,he got one from me...next case...and remember,an expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less...

John, originalguy,am running out of PMs...the bill count's similar to that described in gene gordon's dizzy dollar except the angle of his bills seems unnatural, never saw any of the others you mention explained.i learned the count working a carnival, it's what everybody on the lot did, along w/the PULLBACK w/change...the envelope switch is my modest addition, creating a shorter ROUTINE than the kaps(he uses a wallet),or other routines...it alone's worth the $10,consider the count as lagniappe...
