I’m finally working with a local vent coach, the talented Ronald Coulter who turns out to be a fantastic teacher and coach, and I’m now making the progress I'd hoped for.
He gave me an thin oblong wooden tool to wedge between my teeth when I practice dialogue, and it’s been a huge help in developing better diction, precision, and lip control. I think these are the old ventril-o-aids that were once included with the Maher course, --do many of you use these to rehearse your scripts, --and are they currently made and sold? Thanks, Walt |

Walt,
Clinton includes them with the Maher course - so if you want to buy some, he would be the man to contact. Basically a popsicle stick with some holes. They are a great learning tool. I used one. |

How is the popcicle stick with the holes held in ones mouth? Flat, or on end?

On end, the holes allow air and sound to escape through the stick. Basically you can do it with a pencil. The reason for the stick is to help you feel if you try to move your lips.

The stick is so your tongue has to over work when you talk in the ventriloquial voice and then you take it away ....... then it has to move less making the enunciation better.
