The shellgame makes a great trick and like the cups and balls there are a lot of different props that can be used instead of nut shells.
I have several sets of shells that I have gotten over the years. I like the copper sfs shells, La Maggiore and use them most often. The pea I use is a small by gosh spongeball. However like the cups and balls - it is not really the props it is the routine and the effect that it has on the audience. http://www.mrhypnotist.org/video/shellgameglennbishops.wmv Here is a sample of the routine that I have been doing over the past 30 or so years - I published it back in the 70's in my first lecture notes - then I wrote a book about it - then put the routine on my second DVD - and later on I did a DVD on the shellgame and three card monte. These things did not go to the depth that some published works did - however the point of my projects were to publish the routines from the point of view of good entertainment. I hope this helps.

Is there anybody stocking School for Scoundrels gear in the UK? Does SFS ship to the UK?
Really want to get hold of some shells and bits! I was lucky enough to meet and watch the master Mr Haydn in action in the UK a few years ago at Bristol Day of Magic and wish I had got some SFS goodies!! Many thanks! Whisky Per Tutti!! |

I have used the following shells:
1. SFS Street Shells 2. La Maggiore Shells 3. Magic Maker Golden Shells. The SFS shells are first rate as are the La Maggiore Shells. The La Maggiore shells are the prettiest and most natural looking shells but the SFS shells are easier to use. The size is better with the SFS shells; as Whit says "the pea is the star of the show" so the bigger the shell, the smaller the pea looks. So the pea looks better with the SFS shells. Stay away from the Magic Maker shells. They suck. PM me if you want to buy my set, I'll make you a deal. I have both Sal Paciente's DVD on the shell game which is good. I also have Intro to the Shell game vol.1 by SFS. Anything that SFS puts out is first rate and I highly recommend the dvd. I plan on purchasing Volume 2 very soon. I also see that Bob Sheets has a Boot Camp video that is getting good reviews as well. Love my shells.... |

I find that the SFS shells are the hardest for me to work with because I have dry hands & dificulty picking them up. The Shellbacks and Mags work better for me, although many people love the SFS shells.
