Levent: Hope you can have a look at the Pepe Carroll routine, let me know what you think. Here's the link, by the way:

The Pepe Carroll routine looks a little derivative of the Richard Ross routine. Ross's FISM Grand Prix routine can be viewed at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di4XxI3Bz......index=33 Ross's routine was explained in his Greater Magic video, along with some other outstanding ideas like the one-hand vanishing cane and a color-changing ball routine. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

I think he is from Spain. If I am correct, I think he died about six years ago from a heart attack.

He was only about 45 or 46 when he died. It's a shame that he is only known among the circles in Spain.

Levent-
This post is a little late but I recently ordered your billiard ball manipulation DVDs and just want to say how much I like them. Someone posted on here that it would be money well spent, and that was indeed the case. Thank you for putting together such a quality product. You have done a great job not only as a magician, but also as teacher and historian. They are very interesting to watch as well as learn from! It's a tribute to your dedication to the art that you also recommend other manipulation dvds/resources. I just wish I'd started with the billiard balls 20 years ago. However, a late start is better than no start. Thanks again! |

Guys,
I finally had the chance to meet and sit and talk with Levent after knowing him for 20+ years. He was at Magic on the Beach. I missed the lecture as I got tied up in the booth but caught the very end of it when he was Finishing up the lecture with the misers dream. His Linking Ring on Saturday night will make you rethink your ring routines. This dvd set is also going to be very comprehensive as his others were. Levent is probably one of the most intensive scholars on magic I have ever had the privilege to sit and talk with. Richard

I look forward to Levent's ring dvds. His BB dvds have had a big impact on my current shows since they inspired me to start performing BBs again after many many years.

Hi TX Kevin, Richard and James: You are all too kind.
TXKevin: I'm glad that you have found these videos so useful!! Also it is good that you got them at $45.95 plus shipping, because I will wholesale them to dealers on February 1, 2011 at which time the retail price will go up to $59.95 to match that of the Misers Dream DVD. For those of you who purchased it at the lower introductory price, I thank you for your patronage. Richard: It was great to finally meet you after all these years. I guess I am a bit intense with regard to magic history. I think another word that you can use for me is passionate, as I really care about the subjects that I cover in my research. I hope we can get together again soon! JamesinLA: Just an update, I have two more rare books that are coming to me in the mail with regard to the Linking Rings after I study them, I shall consider my research on the trick complete. My total research PDF topped out to almost 1600 pages of ring material. I think I pretty much know which moves and routines will make it to the video. I think that there will be at least 7 important routines from the past as well as my current routine that I will teach. At the present time I am busy practicing those older routines so that I can perform them competently on the DVD set. I thank you for the ring move that you sent me last year and as is my custom I will certainly send you (and Richard Hughes) a free copy of the DVD set when they are completed. Best regards, Levent http://www.LeventMagic.com P.S. The $45.95 price for the Billiard is good until January 31, 2011 http://web.mac.com/leventmagic/LeventMagic/Billiard_DVD.html

I'm glad to hear things are coming along Levent, there is no doubt that the wait will be worth it. Just curious, what rare books are you waiting on?
Cheers! Matt M.

Levent,
Thanks for the update! I am very excited to learn from all that your ring dvds are certain to provide. It will be facinating to learn the history and the evolutional heritage of the trick and so great to see your recreations of past milepost routines. Jim

Matt: I won't tip that info, just yet. But I will give you a clue: it was 8 pages of mimeographed text stapled together in the 1920s. It describes the ring techniques of a man who wrote very important magic books from the early 20th Century. Believe it or not these old slips of paper cost me $65 and they were worth every penny.
For me this is a very exciting time as I am carefully learning these old routines and absorbing the knowledge of the masters. Right now I just joined a cruise ship and in my luggage I have 25 linking rings of various sizes and materials to help me learn the art. Best regards to all, Levent http://www.LeventMagic.com

I'm thinking of upgrading from 10 inch to 12 inch rings. Would you recommend any sets of 12 inch rings? Thanks. Jim

Levent,
I have an original manuscript of a ring routine that I will have to mail you. It is on legal sized onion skin and I don't have a scanner that large. This came from the notebooks of W.W. Durbin in the 1920's. You may have it but you should have a copy of this manuscript. Richard

JamesinLA:
You cannot go wrong with the Owens set which is what I use. That said, a friend of mine who does a lot of fair dates made a good point when he told me that when he hands rings out to a group of drunk "Bikers" at an Octoberfest he uses solid steel rings and not the hollow ones like Owens. As you know, I saw your routine and the 10 inch set that you are using looks perfectly fine, so I don't know if upgrading to a 12 inch set will offer you an advantage. Also bear in mind the false count that you are using will be a LOT tougher to do with a larger and thicker set of rings!!! In my case, my average audience is over 1000 people so, I must use the 12" Owens set for not only visibility sake but to make the rings seem more substantial. Richard: That sounds great! I don't have the Durbin material. Don't sent me the original, just make two scans of each page (top and bottom with an overlap of the text) as a grayscale, jpeg, at least 150 dpi. I will reassemble the pages in Photoshop and convert them to PDF for my research file. Send me an email and I will give you a link to a server that will allow you to upload large files directly to me. Best regards, Levent http://www.LeventMagic.com P.S. I am on a cruise ship right now and in my cabin I actually have 25 linking rings of various sizes and materials so that I can practice the routines from the 19th Century. Boy, those rings really made my suitcase heavy!

I keep telling you you need more flowers in the act. They are very light......
I will send you an email with the regular address. The originals are on onionskin so I don't think they would make the trip too well. I will try to get to it this week but I am fighting freezing pipes with the furnace out until Friday. Richard
