What are some good sources of card magic for the big stage such as Nate Leipzig used to do?

I don't touch stage work but I would imagine looking into Jeff McBride's work wouldn't be a terrible place to start...

Greater Magic has some cool stuff. There are some very interesting ideas in Jon Allen's new book as well.
And, of course, check out Hofsinzer and Robert-Houdin. Ben

Bato William,
These aren't Leipzig...esque but they are some of my favorite stage card effects. Martin Lewis has some great stuff (i.e. Cardiographic). Histed Heisted (Simon Aronson) is a great stage effect, along with many other MD type effects. There are several large monte type routines. Stan, Kate, and Edith (Doc Eason and Kerry Pollack...I think) is a monte type effect (however, the audience doesn't have to look for any particular card) with a humorous story. There are so many but these are a few of my favorites. Jered

Many memorized deck tricks, maybe clutch, Juan Tamariz's Card Printed on Handkerchief, if you could do ACAAN/ID with jumbo cards that would be cool

Osterlind has some nice stage stuff using his BCS. Also Bill Abbott has a booklet called cabaret card magic which I don't own but an seriously considering getting, I mean if Richard Sanders says its good it probably is.
otherwise try the classics, cards across, card stab/sword, card in lemon, jumbo invisible deck etc. Or if you feel like ****ing a couple of people off create a stage routine to the sting song shape of my heart |

You could start with "The Magic of Nate Leipzig."
The last section of "Royal Road to Card Magic" is a goldmine of comedy club and platform card material. Kaplan's "The Fine Art of Magic" is another. The Eddie Fechter routine from Magic of Eddie Fechter or Magician Nitely called "Eight to Twelve" is great for stage, especially with two elementary school age kids on stage on either side of the table. "Can you count? Like up to ten?" sets up a very fun and raucus counting contest that is very entertaining. "That can't be right! Count again." |
