Hi everyone. I'm new to posting here, but have been lurking for a long time. Don Driver really turned me on to posting on the forum and I need your help.
I'm looking for a good wholesale supplier of the mini magic coloring books. I don't really care which one "Magic coloring book",, "Comedy and Magic coloring book",, etc... I'm just trying to find the best wholesale pricing on it. I used to pitch the larger versions at flea markets but would really like to start pitching the mini ones. Madhatter has them for $1.80 each for the name version "Magic Coloring Book" and also $22 for a dozen of the "Comedy and Magic Coloring Book", both of which are the minis. Is there a supplier out there to get a slightly lower price per piece? Thanks in advance for your help. I typically have been pitching the Flying Cards and Magic Mouse for many years, sometimes throwing in different items here and there, but I would really like to grab a couple gross of these mini books to start with. Have a great day everyone! Ses |

Ses -- Don't know what source Rod gave you, but give D. Robbins a try at http://www.e-zmagic.com, they have the minis a bit cheaper than what you quoted. But I have never seen them and so can't vouch for the quality. SETH

Robbins requires a minimum purchase of a $200. Where can I buy a couple dozen at a time?

This is not a pitch product on it's own. It should be used as a giveaway item with the Svengali deck which should sell for $10. You give away three items with the deck and sales will increase. The three items should be the mouse, the Dutch Looper and the colouring book. This is what we in the business who know what we are doing call "a lump up"
At one time it WAS a pitch product known as the Flik Book. This worked on the same principle as the colouring book but was far superior. It was sold on street markets in London by Charlie Boyer and possibly Charlie Edwards. Then somehow Art Emerson got hold of it and made it into an item to sell to magicians at a vastly higher price. And I hope Robbins growls at you the way they do with everybody. |

My first meeting with Ken Brooke was in the early 1950's when I saw him pitching the Flik Book in R.H.O. Hills' department store in Blackpool. The Flik Book was the 'come on' before he went on to sell Unique Magic's 'Tricks of the Television Stars', a paperback book compilation of items from Harry Stanley's house magazine, 'The Gen'.
As Mark says, the Flik Book was a far superior item for grafters than the modern Colouring Book (which is a fine trick for kid shows but doesn't have the punch of the original Flik Book patter - there were seven changes, plus the blank page). I bought a stack of Flik Books from Cynthia Neptune (Johnny's widow) some years ago, but they were a much cheaper product and not printed on the same stock as Ken's. I imagine that they would be far too expensive to produce now. Leslie.

Good heavens, Leslie! How nice to see you here. I must let you see this because it involves either you or your son. At least I am sure it does even though your names are not mentioned. I posted it elsewhere but I am also going to post it here so you can see it.
I have now received permission to copy a private message on here. I will omit the sender's name for privacy reasons but I must say that I found it quite moving. It made me feel that my life has not been a complete waste of time. ........................................................................................................... BLACKPOOL IN THE 1980s Hi Mark It was a beautiful sunny day this morning, so I decided to drive to Blackpool, and have a look around. I live about half an hours drive away, but haven’t been there other than the attend the Magic convention in February, and fancied seeing it with the sun shining. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I saw a guy with a market stall selling Svengali decks, and got chatting to him. I told him I had been a fan of magic from a very young age, and had recently started performing as an actual magician. My first paid gig was about a year ago, and a lifetime of practising card moves and buying tricks was actually on the way to being a career for me. He asked me how I first got interested in magic, and I trotted out the story I’ve told a hundred times, about being in a Café/bar in Benidorm with my dad and a magician doing the linking rings right in front of my face. However, suddenly, I got a real sense of déjà-vu, and a feeling came over me that almost brought tears to my eyes. You see, I lost my dad to lung cancer 4 months ago, and memories of our time together keep popping into my head. And I remembered that I’d been here before. I guess this would have been about 25 – 30 years ago, my dad used to take me to Blackpool, and we would often stop by the M2 Market, or the New Market (I think that is what they were called). And back then, I was shown the first ever magic trick I saw live, it was a Svengali deck which we bought, and this was my first experience of magic. It was this that started my hobby, which has stayed with me. I still have that deck! The guy at the stall said, “Oh I know the guy that worked there, his name was Mark Lewis. He lives in Canada now.” And I remembered that name because of a thread on the magic Café and couldn’t believe what a small world it is. So thank you, for being someone who changed my life 30 years ago, and showed me something that stayed with me forever. |

Hi Mark,
Yes, guilty as charged! I remember the man well - we had a long chat and he told me the story about seeing you in Blackpool a long time ago! Small world indeed! Thanks for posting. Leslie

Kimmo also saw me working on Central Pier when he was six years old and his mother purchased him a deck, which was quite remarkable considering his mother was from Yorkshire where they are extremely tight fisted. Unlike your customer he went and lost the pack in a swimming pool or something although what the hell he was doing with a Svengali deck in a swimming pool God only knows.
He then went on to become the winner of the world's greatest children's entertainer competition in ironically, Blackpool. My Svengali deck started him off. |

I have had lots of luck selling the magic coloring book. Little kids love them because it's easy.
I say "If you can flip through a book, you can do this trick." I borrowed that sentence structure from Don Driver's two card monte pitch. |

I recently brought some books to sell at the flea market and ran out within a few hours! I love the magic coloring book. Great pitch item for me.

We actually sold the Mini-Monster Colouring Book on my son's market stall last summer. I devised a story about a little boy's dream that enabled me to repeat back and forth the various changes from blank to black and white pictures, then back to blank and then to black and white and then on to coloured etc. Finally finishing on blank!(it had all been a dream!) It was quite a rapid succession of changes but resulted in a lot of sales.
We sold them quite cheaply (£2) and often gave them away as a bonus to people who had purchased other items. Leslie
