The restaurant that I work at wants me to do a 15 to 20 min. stage show once and soon twice a night. I know some of you have this set up. Do you charge extra for this? I told my GM that I would be happy to do it but I would have to charge him more to add this service and it seemed like that it never occured to him that I would charge him extra. Just want to check and see if I am thinking straight that this should cost the venue more.

Your thinking is correct! You should bill them more.
When you first approached the restaurant, you pitched yourself as a strolling performer and quoted your hourly fee for "table magic." Now the restaurant is wanting to add a NEW SERVICE to the routine, so you need to re-negoiate your fee. I began doing my Stage Act at Crystals this past January. Nine (9) Shows every weekend over the last 33 Weeks (297 Stage Performances). One thing is I can guarentee that my show is tighter than it's ever been before b/c I perform it sooooo much! It's a great place to work on your material, see what will play and what won't, etc. That should be figured into your equation when talking about billing as that type of set up is PRICELESS! Don't quote your full price show to them as that will no doubt scare them off. Much like you don't book your Restaurant Work for the same rate as your hourly fee for a standard strolling gig, the same should be true of your stage act. Good luck! Christopher

I quoted them what I felt was a modest increase and they did agree but the reaction almost had me second guessing.

Great answer Christopher. I agree 100% The two types of magic are not the same and should be billed accordingly.
good luck and please let us know how it works out.
