I recived the mentalists dream box in the mail today. The box is made very well and the finish on the box looks great. Max's has great customer service he called me 3 or 4 times thru the process plus a few emails back and forth. This type of customer service is rare these days and it really impressed me the way Max done busines. The way the box works is very clever and thought out. The mechanics of the box work very smoothly and quietly and the reset of the gimmick is quick and easy. Here is the best part of the box in my opinion. When the box is set and ready to go the performer never has to touch the box again the box is self working. The specator can go out in the audience collect the billets and unlock the box and take out the billets without fear of them finding anything unusal about the box. I really like this effect and would highly recommend it to anybody wanting to add a strong mentalism rountine to their act. The box will do everything the ad states and is very easy to use. The hardest part of using the box will be trying to keep busy while the specator does all of the work for you. With this new box the performer can focus on presentaion. Max you have done a great job thanks for releasing such a great effect. Here is a link to where the mentalists dream box can be purchased http://www.innovativedeceptions.com/id_mdb3.htm

Well, I am on the list to get one. I got to see this work at MagicLive and the gimmick works very well, quiet, easy, and right in the [s] hands. Glad I got in early. I can't wait to see the final product.

I used the mentalists dream box today in a show and it was amazing the reponse I got. I had been using a box that was similiar that only the magician could touch when collecting billets. Now I can let the specator collect the billets and focus more on presentation. I always got a pretty good reponse on the rountine I was doing but today letting a specator collect the billets and then open the box and choose the billets we would use made the effect cleaner and stronger with a better reaction to the rountine. I believe this will be one of my best purchases of 2009.

I have read the basic effect in the Ad.
I liked the use of multicolored paper slips. Quote:

I wanted to add another comment to my last post. Monday was the first time I had ever used the dream box. I was standing at the end of the stage giving the audience direction on what to do when they finished writing on their billets that a man would be around to collect them. While I was standing at the end of the stage I heard a man tell a woman the magician will pick the 3 pieces of paper from the box. Well this got my attention so I made sure I was no where near the box so I took a side table to the front of the stage and let the specator put the box on it then I told the spectator to throw 3 foam bricks into the audience and let them pick the billets from the box. When the 3 spectator came on stage and choose 3 different colored billets from the box and they matched everything written on the white board the whole place went quiet and this effect wasn't my closing effect. I went on with the show but it was hard to get their attention back.

Or you could just buy Richard Mark Book "MIND WARP" and utilize one of the utility gimick in there to do the same dirty work that this box can do, without having to spend lots of $$$
those who own and read Richard Mark Book knows what I mean, but sadly this book is Out of Print

I'm a huge fan of this one. I got to see it in person at magic live and it looked amazing. And then max went on to even make further improvements. The real strength here is that the magician stays 100% out of the equation. A spectator takes the box, collects the billets, opens the box and pulls them out. The magician can choose to be a mere bystander. Hard to get much cleaner and straight forward than that. I believe audiences are much more perceptive then we give them credit for and will appreciate the difference here. I'm looking forward to hearing more real world experiences as that is what counts.

Hey guys I want to say I got to see this effect tonight for the first time. Max has shared this idea and effect with me for some time and tonight was my first demo of it. I have to say, WOWA this box is awesome it is built very well, the craftsmanship is outstanding. The way the box works is just as advertised, YOU DON'T TOUCH IT!! How much cleaner can it get. I am very impressed with this utility, if you know anything about Max you know he is a thinker and he put a lot of thought into this one. Truly this will be a classic and a very powerful tool in the hands of those who own it.
Here is the best part about working with Max, if you PM Max and he will schedule a live demo for those who are serious about this effect. That’s right a live web demo of this awesome effect. It is truly something you need to see to believe. Thanks Max Floyd

But I have no doubts as to the quality & workmanship of the box since many have attested the craftsmanship to be topnotch. If possible, one would like to see a nice performance (from beginning till end) with patter (if possible) neatly captured on video (5 to 7 min duration) without the box going out of frame. One would be interested in seeing how the prop (box) gets into & out of play. After all, the box is only a clever switching device & hence performance will play a great role - the way the creator performs the effect. A quote from the Add is enough to justify the prop: Quote:

Max gave me a sneak peek at the Dream Box over an i-Chat tonight. Wow! Run, don't walk, to get this device (I say that as much to myself as I do to all of you!) The craftsmanship is superb, and the subtle convincers built in to its design are nothing short of genius. I can't go into further detail (although Max might if you ask him kindly), but the "sell" is perfect. So incredibly clean. The mentalist never goes near the box. That cannot be stated strongly enough. In addition, the box can be examined by whoever does collect the billets, and they will not find a thing. At the going price, this magnificent piece of work is a steal. I cannot imagine anything that could follow this in one's act. It's a closer, for sure.

Gabelson, Thank you!
I get it! You have said it all. I no longer need to see a performance video. I will be considering the Dream Box. Best,

Yea really you don't need a performance video, the live web cast is better I think. You get to see it close up and how great this box truly is. I agree with Gabe it is under priced.

I saw it last nitht on i-chat. He did a quick routine so my wife would understand. Red playing cards went into the box, the box was opened, tipped forward to see nothing but blue cards at the bottom of the box. VERY clean. My wife was asking, "how did he do that, trick cards maybe"
I was thinking "LOTTERY PREDICTION". I bet that thing can hold 50 or 100 folded slips! Can't wait to get mine, Faster Max, build them Faster! -Craig

I agree with everybody on the dream box being under priced. I have bought a lot of magic throuthout my life and I will say when I first placed my order for the dream box I was a little concerned about the dream box being able to deliver what Max's ad stated but when I recived the box in the mail I was glad I made the purchase it does everything the ad states. I will be ordering a second box here in a couple of weeks. I like to have a back up of everyhting that I have in my show. The box will easily hold 50 to 75 billets.

Looks like a great prop. From the picture, it doesn't surprise me that it can hold 50-75 billets when it's opened ... but can the spectators actually push that many billets through the slit? If it can also switch that number of billets out -then I'm very impressed.

In have had 60 billets loaded into the dream box by a specator collecting them from the audience. I cut my billets kind of small to where just one word will fit on them and use a round sticker to close them. I do a dream vacation type of rountine works pretty well.

The Dream Box is outstanding item from Max. Beautifully finished, it looks beautiful. The gimmick is indictable and the box can be totally handled by spectators. The performer never has to touch the box at all.
The absolute best of its kind and I have had all of the previous ones. The Dream Box addresses all of the problems of the older types. This one is a gem. Way to go Max!
