Hi all. I recently bought an effect called the magic ball rod, from a deceased magician's wife. The only problem is, it has no instructions. I have figured out what I think you should accomplish and I like it. But would like to get the original handeling/instructions. If anyone has this, could you please pm me? or could you please let me know where I can find the instructions. Thank you.

Good luck finding instructions for that!

Best,

Not the original instructions, but the trick is explained, with a basic routine as I recall, in either Hoffman's books (probably "Modern Magic") or Sachs' "Sleight of Hand".

Hi Doug, yes that is it. Thanks Curtis, will check in Sleight of Hand by Edwin Sachs. Will have to see if I can find Hoffman's Book.

Just happened to have a loook at the old books, and found two descriptions of how the effects went, but not much of a script. See:

"The Magi's Brazen Rod" Sachs, p. 324 of the Dover ed.

"Magic Ball and Rings" Hoffmann's Modern Magic, p. 231,Dover.

The write up in Sachs is interesting, as he suggests (with some distain, I would imagine) that the trick is a mechanical elaboration of the ring-on-stick effect done by pure sleight-of-hand.

A different effect utilizing a similar ball is Thayer's Poco Chinko(sp?).

Perhaps a bit more of a performance piece because of the suggested storyline...
