So I was doing magic at a party yesterday and did cards and spongeballs for different groups of people talking throughout the house.
It went well but when thinking about my performance afterwards I thought if I could throw a really nice mentalist effect in there it would really spice up my performance. What are some single mentalist effects for these types of situations or a good dvd source of multiple mentalist effects that you guys think are solid? |

Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

Anything by Richard Osterlind. Specifically I will recommend his booklet "The Perfected Center Tear" and his DVD Mind Mysteries Volume One. The effects in those two sources alone are hands down some of the best ever created.
The best part about mentalism is that it is perfect for strolling. Some may disagree, but that has been my experience. Mentalism has so few props, it's wonderful for walkaround. All you need is some pens and paper (and maybe an Ostin clip) and you can do miracles.

I personally perform "Into the Abyss" by Oz Pearlman, "Universal Impression" by Robert Smith and "Coinvexed 2" (sharpie edition) by David Penn. Three effects that kill the audience. Of course, I agree with Pearljamjeff as any sources like Osterlind, "Practical Mental Magic" (Annemann) or the "thirteen steps" of Corinda are the basis you should read carefully before any live attempt.
