I'm not a big fan of gaffs, just more stuff to lose or carry around.

Fred Riser's Ambitious Riser makes for a pretty nifty rise. Both Chris Kenner and Richard Sanders have interesting version of it.
I'm also fairly partial to the one Josh Jay published in his complete Course of Magic, which is an extension on the one described in Erdnase (but with a clever twist). Finally, I like the one in Concerto for Pasteboards. Hope that helps! Ben

Here's a suggestion that doesn't use a gaff... as such! (is a napkin or hank a gaff?)
It's a double or triple card rise, using a napkin to wrap the deck in, on the Richard Sanders Show, Volume 2 I believe. It can be done surrounded. Good luck, Charlie |

On the master sessions, Carney has a zombie style card rise on vol.3, as part of a card & hank routine (cards undercover).
Also, while failing the no-gaff criteria, on vol.4, there is an unusual card rise that uses an external object, which you might use for other non card effects (not IT). |

I'm a big fan of Gaf versions of Rising Card because they are much more effective than Gafless versions.

The Ken Krenzel item "On the Up and Up" could well be worth your time to explore.

The Freudian version of a rising card might be lots of fun too. Selected cards rise from an empty box (of denial) propelled by the power of the id.

It's not a mistake. Several years ago Harry Riser and Fred Robinson came together on one magical night and sired a child together. This super being went by the name Fred Riser. In 2011 he traveled back in time, to 1609, and published a handling of the rising card in order to beat one of his fathers to the punch. He also claimed all versions of the raise rise idea, much to Eric Jones' chagrin.
So no, I don't feel like a moron. In the off chance the Vernon Miller can stop him, the move will still belong to Fred Robinson. But don't hold your breath. Ben

I like Albert Goshman's act with Devano Rising Card best.
Best thing is not only with the prop but with the presentation. Audience doesn't (couldn't) appreciate the prop but appreciate the performance with the prop. Hideo Kato |

Fred Robinson's rising card is described in Pabular with Eric Mason's illustrations and in Peter Duffies' Book The Magic of Fred Robinson.
If this thread extends to close up rising card solutions as suggested by Hideo Kato, then we should mention the technique of the Argentinian magician Henry Evans. His gimmick on a card which will allow any card to rise doesn't allow to place the deck against a glass as Albert used to do with the Devano deck, but Henry Evans gimmick keeps a full deck of card (supplying even a key card) which can be spread on the table or given to the spectators for examination. Yet any ungaffed card can rise with the deck in the spectator's hands.
