Hey all,

I have been working on my three card monte and it's gotten to the point where no one can follow my throw. My next goal is to handle a bent corner, does anyone know of a technique that bends up the non-index corner? Right now I can only find ones that will bend up the index and I'd rather not deal with the potential for exposure. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Stiles

The non-index corner is very difficult to work, and really, when done right, the index corner works fine and doesn't expose anything. Remember, the work is put into the cards beforehand, and they bend exactly where you want them to bend.

Gazzo has a bent corner that is extremely clever, though takes a bit of work to put it in. The index is intentionally shown, and it is even more of a fooler.

You can find his work on this on our DVD "The School for Scoundrels DVD on the Three-Card Monte."

I haven't seen the Scoundrels 3CM DVD (on my list to acquire) but I do have the "Scoundrels Touch" 3 Shell DVD and it's one of the best instructional DVD's I've ever seen!

All of the SFS DVDs are excellent. Following your throw isn't the name of the game, most people can't anyway. Whether they follow or not most people are guessing, your job is to get them to guess wrong, ESPECIALLY when they know where it is.

Actually, you want them to be so sure that they would bet on it!

Thanks for all the great information guys.

By the way Whit, I saw a video of your performing your ACR at the magical castle a few years back and I have to say I loved it.

Hello Stiles -- picking up on Andrew Musgrave's advice, if you get a chance, look for Michael Skinner's 3 card monte performance on youtube. His subtle, understated misdirection and reveal is truly entertaining AND instructive, at least to a newbie like me. Good luck!

Hello, Stiles,

Another possibilty are the new Bicycle "LEFT-HANDED" decks where the pip indices are on the upper right and lower left of each card. I couldn't find them using a Google search but see: http://nymagicproject.com/products/leftydeck.htm and http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=218

Personally, as watchmaker suggested, I'd think that you'd want the spectator to see the bent index to further cement in the cards' ID in their mind. Also, IMHO, the left-handed cards tend to look a little weird since they are not "normal". As such, you might run into "you're just using trick cards" comments.

Best,

Mike

Magicwanabe: The Michael Skinner routine ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sso1oAiFPe8 ) is beautifully relaxed. Thanks for the tip it gives me a good idea of how I want to progress. The accidental corner bend is brilliant and gives me a better idea on appropriate placement.

Turk: After watching the Michael Skinner routine I think I see how the index bend is highly effective.

Thank you guys again for all the knowledge shared here.
