So we have confirmed that this is in fact a knock off and that it can store a washing machine, which is in no way connected to Wayne Dobson.

Lovely,

2 inches shorter... Surely that makes it a different illusion. I'm willing to bet he cut 4 inches off the legs. Added 2 to the base and voila! A piece of $%&*.

Unfortunate that such a beautiful effect is butchered by the builder, not the performer.

I suppose the real question now becomes, was Christian Farla aware that he was purchasing a terrible knock off?

Hi Wayne,

I just heard the same so I'm glad you confirmed it!
Christian told me he bought your origami and since he also has a lot of your other illusions I had no reason to doubt him! I thought I had my information from a reliable source...(I only looked briefly at the video's and never saw Christian perform his origami live otherwise it would be easy to see who build it as I have a Gaughan one and Hans Klok has a wellington, which I played with during rehearsals, so I am very familiar with the details...)
To bad Christian doesn't owns geniune one and sorry to hear that the person who stored your material (P.H.)build some unauthorised copies!

Well, I don´t expect anything from a guy who uses an unallowed and not licensed steel plate illusion from Andre Kole: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFaRMIEaJQc

Just to add to the confusion, we were told that our Origami belonged to Wayne and we are told it is an original John Gaughan (It also has his sticker on the mirror and on the flight case)

When we had our Origami built by Gaughan and picked it up in person, there were no stickers of any kind placed on it.

Can others chime in and verify the presence or absence of any stickers?

Gauhan is known to sometimes write or sign the inside of his props. . .

Most of the time there is nothing on the props to indicate it came from him. However if you ask for it..that is different.
Some of Mark Wilsons old props were signed in pin-striping. Abb Dixon's stuff had small engraved plaques that read--Handcrafted for Abb Dixon by John Gaughn. But the majority of stuff---nada.

Why not call and ask John if he ever put stickers on stuff?

Every builder leaves his mark .. and I'm not talking about tags or labels. The materials and the actual construction of a prop varies greatly between builders. After many years in the business it's pretty easy to determine who built what.

Photos online can be deceiving .. and sometimes you have to examine things in person.

Good advice Steve. As a fellow craftsman I know what you mean! Sometimes something so simple as a glue line or inner bracing can give you an insight into who built what.

I'd suggest someone get to the bottom of these knock offs.

the worst model; hard to build worse...Butcher job at its best
And unfortunatly, I'm pretty sure it is a Tora model...OR a supplier of Tora, cause I have seen this on a catalogue with others props from this manufacturer. It has ''Origami'' only in the name.

I've seen some bad work, even some amateur illusions that are just atrocious. These is the worst I have seen in a long time. It just gross...

Ugh.
