Santa, sorry I missed your Don Cherry mentions earlier.
Stoneunhinged...u the man! You might agree with Don sometimes, you might disagree sometimes, but you'll always find him entertaining in some sort of way. Back to the warming thingie. I think it is because the planet just needs to toughen up and get into the corners more. You know, like in the minors where you have to fight and be tough. Not like them sissies that wear the visors and rings like Saturn eh? On a more serious note, I've never been one to jump on the global warming bandwagon. I always found it to be just a little too unnerving to see how easy it was to get people to chant the mantra that we're all doomed. The whole thing seemed cult like to me. Having planted myself on that side of the arguement, I still think there needs to be an examination of the source of this article, the paper and the writer. Calgary is in the province of Alberta. Besides being a bastion of conservatism (at times radically so by some) it is also the home of the tar sands. The tar sands have been attacked repeatedly for the massive negative affect it has had and will have on the atmosphere. The tar sands (and oil industry) are also one of the major industrial employers in Alberta. Alberta's oil revenues in fact, mean that they are the only province where the citizens do not have to pay a sales tax, since their Heritage Fund (oil revenues) make it unnecessary. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, that any newspaper in Calgary, like the Herald that would want to do well would no doubt take the side of the people who doubt the global warming theory as it is often presented. And, any writer on that paper would also do themselves good to take that position as well. Anyway, I certainly enjoyed the article. Thanks for posting it! |

He still says he expects teh warming to return in 10-20 years. So, according to him, it exists, just not these next 10-20 years? Most of us have come to the conclusion that climate change/global warming is a real thing, for the others there is this nice river in Egypt, a quiet place for you all to settle down.

Kevin your head is so far up your butt...MOST absolutely are NOT on board this scam. Look at the polls. But even IF it was...destroying the the US economy and way of life is BS...China and India certainly won't buy into it...they know better not to wreck their systems over computer modles based on bogus formulas. Climate Change is REAL. Has been for BILLIONS of years. Will be forEVER. Regardless of your all important porch light bulb. The arrogance is mind boggling.

A sizeable majority of people agreed that major steps needed to be taken soon to address global warming. More than 22,000 people were surveyed in 21 countries and the results show a great deal of agreement on the issue. An average of 79% of respondents to the BBC survey agreed that "human activity, including industry and transportation, is a significant cause of climate change". Nine out of 10 people said action was necessary, with two-thirds of people going further, saying "it is necessary to take major steps starting very soon". In none of the countries did a majority say no action was necessary to combat climate change.

Of course China won't wreck their economy, they're going to use it to their advantage.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/09......dex.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/may......r-energy Not only that but China is also planning a universal health care system. It's funny how much people hate communism but the Chinese are passing us by and actually accomplishing stuff. Meanwhile we can't even decide on anything! I understand that some people think the climate change is happening and others don't. Everyone has their reasons. But let's say, just for the sake of argument, climate change is not occurring in any way and we're thousands of years away for it to happen. The chemicals we're using aren't that great, the fuels we burn still pollute, we destroy forests (which we rely on for many things), we are slaves to our oil supply, we damage our water supply, and contaminate our food. All of the things that are environmentally friendly seem to solve many of those problems and promote new businesses. I don't seem to see any problem with using environmental tactics to make our society better. Now, if we could find a way to profit from all those changes then we would be golden. I don't see how evolving our society into something more efficient is a problem (given it's done in a financially responsible way). |

I agree that climate change has many causes besides the human equation, but if we're getting into what it sounds like we're getting into then that speaks of air pollution, which has broader connotations than just the alleged meteorological ones.

Just for fun:
97% of all Christian children under the age of 5 believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus 88% of all people getting married for the first time believe their marriage will last forever 91% of all ancient Greeks believed Zues was the head god 97% of 14th century Catholics believed the sun circled the earth 80% of young enlisted men in 1914 thought that WWI would end in less than 6 months Believing it doesn't always make it so. Just because there is so much dissent in how to interpret the facts on global warming means there is room for doubt, whether that doubt be complete, or just some of the time. Yet, people who voice their doubts are looked upon as pariahs. Here's another example of ganging up. Right now in Ontario, they are going to take away the right of people to talk on phones while driving in the next couple of weeks. There is also talk that they want to outlaw drivers from eating or drinking while driving. The problem is that in the Greater Toronto Area, there are congested roads, frustrated drivers and drivers with other poor habits. The perception of the Do Gooders in the GTA is that there are too many accidents because of phone use and eating by drivers. Well, that may or may not be true in the GTA, but it ain't the case in the other part of the province which makes up about 95% of Ontario's geography. Still, the GTA will get their way and we will all have to suffer because of those Toronto knuckleheads. I drive close to 100 000 kilometres a year and talk on my phone and have at least one cup of coffee and something to eat behind the wheel everyday. The commute from my house to work alone Monday through Friday is 250 kilometres round trip each day. Then there are the 35 000 to 40 000 kilometers a year I put on my cars doing magic each year. So, now I have to suffer because somebody else believes they are making me safer. What a load of hoooey! Just because somebody believes something, doesn't make it so. |

Yet I suspect the laws you are talking about are not about making it safer for those who use cells or eat while they drive. Rather, they are about making it safer for those who share the roads with such people. By the same sort of reasoning you are using, it seems to me that we should also get rid of laws that ban drunk driving.

Love those rainforests, but the locals are just not trained to maintain them so they will have to be helped by specialists and volunteers. Starting to sound like this century's arm bands are gonna be green. Shall we call the resettlement camps "ecological service" this time?
And those who disagree can be nuked so's to speed the land reclamation project and lower the dissident carbon emissions. Or maybe a nice plague? Those who don't learn not to jump and fuss when driven by historical example will be getting righteous and turning on their neighbors in no time.

Why do some people resort to the extreme and call people fascists when they are trying to help the environment? On the opposite extreme those who are trying to suppress the environmental movement are acting in just as fascist manner when they think nothing should be done about the situation. In the end the clash of ideals accomplishes nothing because either way someone is not getting what they want. And I don't know what is the solution but I know someone like B.F. Skinner was on the verge of some sort of a solution over thirty years ago on how to control the liberties in this nation and around the world.
In the end, there's no such thing as freedom, rights, or dignity. They're fabrications, idealistic terminologies attempting to be applied to a material world that doesn't work on those principles. We may feel we have the "right" to drive a big car, but at the same time it pollutes and affects the way we breathe. On the other hand,we now make hybrid SUV's and cars that run on alternative fuels. There is middle ground, we just have to find it. Something has to be done to help our living environment because we are polluting faster than it can recover. This sounds very remnant of the Mayan culture who perished because they overpopulated and overused their resources. I think we simply making the same mistake again regardless of whether or not warming is taking place. Here's an idea, give the environmentalists what they want, it will shut them up. And in turn give people on the right nothing to complain about. |

Polls:
"But even the more neutral Rasmussen poll isn’t truly representative of what the public thinks either. That’s because the public really doesn’t yet know what to think." http://www.businessweek.com/blogs/money_......s_o.html Poll: Americans Not Buying Global Warming Propaganda... http://www.dakotavoice.com/2009/01/poll-......paganda/ From Rasmussen Reports: Forty-four percent (44%) of U.S. voters now say long-term planetary trends are the cause of global warming, compared to 41% who blame it on human activity. This is down from 47% last year, so the Gore-ites are progressively losing their grip on the minds of the people. This is especially remarkable given that the “mainstream” media has been 110% in the tank for Gore and his outrageous claims for years. They have been totally complicit in pushing this notion despite the fact that there is little science to back it up, and a mountain of conflicting evidence. NASA temperature records have been found to be erroneous and have been revised…with little or no fanfare in the “mainstream” media. Many of the weather stations gathering evidence has also been compromised and do not provide reliable data. Believers in this theory also ignore evidence going back thousands of years (some say even farther) showing natural climate cycles." Hysterical Panty waists.
