If you had to recommend just 5 resources to turn a keen hobbiest into a proffessional table hopping/strolling magician what would they be?
These resources could be effects, props, books, lecture notes, videos, dvds, internet sites or even people, whatever you can think of. Thanks |

I'll give you one - The Magic Café
I don't know where I'd be without the site. The gems contained in certain threads here are priceless! I'd venture to say that right up there on my list would also be - EXPERIENCE. No prop, book, lecture note, etc. will ever help you know what it's really like performing in the real world. Theory can only get you so far, actually doing it will give you first hand feedback on what works for you and how to improve! |

I'd say join a club. Interacting with pros is a great opportunity. I wish I could do more of that!

In no order.
The Magic Menu. The Magic Café Forums. Jim Pace's/Jerry MacGregor's "The Restaurant Worker's Handbook." A place to find good suits, you have to dress nice. A night in the trenches.
By the time you read this, you've already read it.

A lot of you suggest working as the best resource. Does this mean that you think most keen hobbiests would be ready to start working for a lay audience with no further study or aid?
If not where would you recommend that this all important experience should be gained from? Thanks |

I have to agree with those who said experience. I would also add work on
slights, principles, and presentation. Don’t have a complete routine of someone else’s work, put some of yourself into your routine. Perform every chance you get. Jesse |
