Have you ever wondered where the "Red Snapper" trick, found in many joke shops and magic kits?
Me neither. But, it turns out it's based on a (very surprising, very magical) G.W. Hunter trick with a pencil and a metal tube. And it turns out we have Sid to thank for carrying the idea across the Atlantic. Read about the origins in Red Snapper Hunt. I'd have more to say on the subject, but it's time to go looking for metal tubes to try this thing. |

Continuing in the series of answers to questions you never thought to ask:
Sid Lorraine explains how to untie a knot tied in a human hair (and how to make members of the Magic Circle look strange and silly in the process). He also gets to meet Wilfrid Jonson and shares his presentation for the "Four Burglars" with G.W. Hunter. Read all about it in Silence is Golden |

A flashback to the days when you could fool magicians with the 10-20 Force.
Some fun ideas this week as Sid talks about the characters he wasn't able to meet during his trip to England: Chris Van Bern's novel act and some of his unique promotional strategies. Billy O'Connor, a magician with "52 Assistants", and his clever use of the "Instanto" deck. Tom Fagan's finale for the rising cards. Read The Ones that Got Away |

Sid got me badly one time. He was doing is "Fraznia" medicine pitch act and started to lose is voice. I grabbed a glass of water and was trying to figure a way to get it to him quickly without disturbing thing... when suddenly he DRANK SOME FRAZNIA and his voice came back...
I was led down the path by Sid and really caught. When I got my first job in an advertising art studio in San Francisco, we had a New Zealander named Dave Nelson also get hired. He was then working in Toronto and when he arrived and found out I was a magician he said there was a magician where he worked... named Sid Lorraine and wondered if I had heard of him. Of course I did. Later I did the preliminary sketches for the Ken Brooke instructions for the Malini Egg bag and sent them to Sid for the finished drawings. They are probably the best instructions ever produced for the egg bag.

This week is really neat. Sid meets J.T. Garrus who shows him an interesting move he learned from a Florida medium. That move went on to become a ubiquitous technique still in use by mentalists today.
