Illusion F/X contains 11 effects. They are as follows;
Head Trip - A solo effect where the magi walks out holding a sheet that obscures his body from view. The magician pokes his head through a slit in the sheet. His head then plummets to the floor then shoots back up to it's normal position. The magician drops the banner to show that nothing is there. 2-D Sawing - A sawing effect where the magician saws himself in half. The Infinity Cabinet - A Modern Cabinet variation Stripper - A straightjacket escape where the magician vanishes after the escape and reappears in the back of the audience. The Utimate Escape - A straightjacket escape with a motorcycle production. Balloon Box - A "sword" box illusion using a child from the audience, and balloons instead of swords. Zig Zag X2 - An idea to produce a girl from within a zig-zag illusion, after performing the typical routine. Instant Sub-Trunk - An interesting exchange idea. The magician is put into a sub trunk and vanishes, only to reappear in the back of the audience. Sword Basket Variation- After performing a standard sword basket routine you cover your assistants with a cloth, and she floats into the air and vanishes. Circle 2 - The magi picks up a cardboard box proving that it's empty. He then produces an assistant from within. Aerodynamic - A levitation effect where the magician floats crosslegged above a fan. All in all, I think the book is worth it. IMO it's the best book Mr. Mayne has written. I remember Illusions by your design building the infinity cabinet at one point. I have also built this effect, and it is very effective. I really like the Stripper effect as well. Most of these effects can be built for less than 100 bucks, excluding the motorcycle appearance. Also, at the end of the book Andrew offers advice on how to start an illusions show for 1000 bucks. However, this book was published in the 90's, I believe, and since then prices have drastically changed. I doubt you can get the illusions he mentions, for the prices he mentions. In the end, I really do think this little book is worth it. There's not really any earth shattering material here. But, the illusions are very practical. Recommended. |

Has anyone built the balloon box? That would be the main reason I would get the book.
Thanks

I have not built it, but I have seen photos of one that a guy did DIY. It looked very good. I think the beauty of the illusion lies within the fact that you use a child from the audience. It can also be built to pack completely flat. This may be just the Illusion your looking for to tack on a few extra hundred onto your birthday show fee. If you have any "personal" questions about the balloon box, please feel free to PM. Good Luck!

Thanks Aaron. The Balloon Box is something I have been wanting to add, but the commercial version is not something I can afford right now.
