Hi Dynamike,
Lots of good info here and glad to see you taking it instride and working to improve the good work you already do. as far as lights concern I would suggest buying a few ar cans. go with par can 56 with reflector cups and 300 watt bulbs go on ebay you will find them as cheap as $20 complete with bulb. these are not "dj" lights which are smaller and more like flood lights this is professional stage lighting. you do not need to get the dimmer paks and controll board at least not yet. 3 of th em shoudl be great and you can add a color gel to one or two of them to add to the show. they will light you up very well and will enhance all your performances. obviously they are not needed in home parties but when yo pay schools or churches or some other venues they will come in handy. I too wear loud suits in my shows but we have lots of lighting for each event feel free to see my vids on my site. again here is the Café doing its job and working wonders. good luck and have fun sam

Some of your clips needs to be tighten up.... Plus, try to arrange the clips, copy, and testimonials to tell an over all story.... Check out one of my demos... It creates a style and a story.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y68B5sMyMw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiLEmDzZSHI Best of luck.....

Personally I think you should not show the linking rings.
Open your video with you walking on stage with the streamers is nice. You should have only one Dove production, the cage production is very nice. The bunnies are nice but only one clip with that animal as well. I like the clip where you are tossing candy at the kids. I also like the minster dream clip. Any clip showing you on stage with a kid is good for your promo since your target audiance is birthday parties and children shows. I would not show the restaurant clip in your promo unless you are going for that venue. Plus everything I shared with you already about Voice Overs in PM. The lighting on your videos can be touched up some with video editing. Floyd

It was in one of your videos, also the chinchilla (or whatever it was) production from the dove pan would be a bad idea because the girl seemed afraid of it. The bird cage I was talking about is the one at the beginning not the one with the adults.

I voted on the following to be put on one video.
Video 1 Clip D (Money Manipulation) Clip H (Sponge Bunnies) Clip I (Misers Dream) Clip N (Balloon To Dove) Clip O (Misers Dream Comedy) Clip P (Disappearing Cane) Clip Q (Tossing out candy) Clip T (Chair Suspension) Video 2 Clip A (Ribbons to Doves) Clip D (Appearing Bird Cage) Clip E (Sponge Bunnies) Clip F (Dove to Rabbit) Clip K (Rabbit Chinchilla Split) Clip M (Spinning Ring) Clip Q (Chinchilla from Dove Pan) I do not know the order yet. The timing will be shortened too for some/all/most of them. "I voted, did you?" Quote:

But flat out just show me a video of your act. Set the camera up so I can see the show as if I was an audience member. I got burned very badly on an act that sent me a really nice demo video to music. Cool stuff etc in the video. When I booked them I realized that the 2:30 minutes from the demo reel was the ONLY exciting 2:30 minutes in the entire 20 minute show. I then found out from the performer that they believed "losing only half their audience wasn't bad." Lesson learned. Just show me what you're going to do on stage or for the kids or whatever venue you're going to be in. Robert |

I agree 100% with that. I think you need to show at least one of your effects during the promo show, so that the audiance can see how you interact with the group. Personally I have in my promo DVD three of my acts from different venues. I send the DVD to booking agents and hosts. For online promo you need to keep it a little tighter then that but truly a 2 min video does nothing I think. When you want to hire someone you will spend the time to make sure they are good so why not give them as much as you can without over doing it. I think Mike is on the right track here he is learning the ins and outs of putting this together. Lots of good advice here I must say. Floyd

When you are a top tier pro and have the references to back you up, 30-45 seconds is all you need when it comes to a highlight reel. However, even the top guys have clips of their FULL acts afterwards.
Your goal is to make them want to see more.. not less.

I wouldn't focus on the tricks like the two lists. Instead, focus on the emotional feeling you are trying to evoke from the person (potential client) watching the video.
Remember what the Dean asked: What is it they want? What is it you provide that fills that need? That's what goes on the video. Nothing more. If that takes 45 seconds, end it at 45 seconds. If it takes 2 minutes, take 2 minutes. For example, if the biggest need is to make sure the kids have a good time at the house parties, then focus on lots of smiling faces. And get both kids and adults (just make sure to get releases when dealing with kids). The specific tricks are not what you are selling. Just remember that. |
