Does anyone know where to buy drawstring bags appropriate for a set of cups and balls? I'd like them to be made of velour, crushed velvet, or velveteen. They should be a "barrel" design (with a flat bottom panel rather than having the sides merely stitched together at the bottom).
I've Googled, but can't find a source. You may PM me if you have any info if you like.

Not that I condone drinking, but I've seen several magi use the Crown Royal bags.

Although I myself do not drink alcohol, I encourage others to; it provides me with a distinct advantage in our transactions....
I use a Crown Royal bag for another effect. I really want a plain drawstring bag for my cups and balls. Thanks!

I got the wife to make me one using Black Velvet with a gold cord trim. Just went to the local fabric store, spent $10.00 and with some help from the loverly produced three wand bags, three prop bags, a coin purse and a Chop Cup bag. They all match my table top (which I also made) and looks quite classy.

Thanks, Pete. Seems baglady's bags are foam-insulated. That might be great for cups, but I'm not sure. I'll look into it.

I wish I could take credit for finding this website, but it's posted elsewhere in the Café. They even sell satin-lined ones.

Amos, they are lovely bags, but not what I want. I need a "barrel style". That is, a flat panel at the bottom. The bags on that site merely have the sides stitched together at the bottom.

Thanks, I think we're getting there! They look great. I might have to shorten them some, but that should be easy.

This evening I was at Cost Plus World Market and found several wine bottle bags that sold for $5.99 each.
They might work well for cups and balls. Several years ago, I found some nifty vinyl drawstring bags that were lined with fabric in a camera store. They were intended to use for carrying large lenses.

Thanks, Bill. I don't know why I didn't think of that, since photography is one of my hobbies. I'll check it out.

I'm surprised that no one suggested you make your own. I made mine with the flat bottom. Quite easy actually and it is small enough project that you don't need a sewing machine.
PM if you are interested in details.

As magicians wanted unusual items, it is imperative to be a DIY person. So far I have learned carpentry, metal work, painting and sewing. After purchasing a sewing book I made my own bags, dove bags, foulards, etc. It is not that difficult if you have the general knowledge.
When I was married, my wife could sew but she refused to sew bags during her free time at home. So I learned and they came out very professional. It took a little longer but I got exactly what I wanted. Tailors will do custom work as well as fabric stores have people they can reference for sewing work. Being you want velvet and not corduroy, it is more difficult because it moves. |

Michael,
Thanks for the URL. Yes, she has exactly the bags I want. wmhegbli, It's true that it is sometimes helpful and satisfying to be able to build our own props and accessories. :nose:

I have been looking for some nice velvet-type bags. After a long and fruitless search, I went to the fabric store and bought some very nice fabric and some drawstring.
I have been making my own velvet bags for cups and balls, coins, decks, etc. They look great and are very versatile.

It looks like you have found your bag. I was going to recommend the bags that A. van Dokkum makes. I just had him make and send me one for my Dean’s Box. Very well made. But I won’t mention it now. Bob |

Like Bob I have had A. van Dokkum make a velvet bag
for my McAbee Rings. His work is superb. I also am a huge fan of his leather balls. |
