I remember reading about online companies that you can sign up with, and you can find parteners to exchange e-mails with etc. Do you know anything about this? I am trying to build a bigger list.
One idea I have is to partner with a local company that caters to the children's market, but isn't competition. I would pay them X amount of dollars to have an ad on their e-mail newsletter. Question? how to find a local company willing to do this. I thought of maybe running an ad in the local newspaper etc? Any Ideas? Thanks Charles Watson |

This will violate many privacy policies and will turn off these prospects you are hoping to win over. NOT the right approach in my opinion.

Even if I pay for an advertisment to appear in their newsletter? I was just curious because I read in a marketing course that you can develop your own newsletter and then sell advertising space.
I can see how selling e-mails to third parties is deffinately not ok. |

Naaaa...
This isn't a violation. This is an advert. They are not giving him the email addresses but are using their list to introduce him. This works well I have used it many times.
its ok.. balloon dogs don't bite

I was refering to the exchanging of email addresses.
Buying a advert in their newsletter etc...much different. That could be very good. |

Hey Mike,
Did that guy ever get in touch with you? |

If this company you're targeting has an e-mail newsletter you might also consider contributing an article. Since you both are after the same market, it should be pretty easy for you to come up with a topic that would interest their readers.
This gives you an opportunity to display your contact info at the end of the article (usually okay with everybody). Plus, if you take out an advert as well, you get the benefit of a double-whammy. The more times they see your name the more times they'll associate you with your service, plus they'll begin to warm to you. Good luck, it sounds like you're thinking about the right kinds of things!
