Hiya, Magi:
Once again, I've discovered an event happening too soon to approach the sponsor and ask for permission to be there...as a vendor. Yes, I realise the appropriate path to follow is to be better informed and plan more timely marketing, but my question at this late hour is this: If I attend a public event as a paying visitor, how would you recommend offering my card and services to other visitors? Related, do you attend public events -- ball games, movies, etc. -- and actively seek ways of introducing yourself to potential clients? Thanks in advance, Leland |

I did that at an event one time and security asked me to leave, so be aware of the rules.

If attending a trade fair it is probably best to ask for a business card of contacts you are interested in, or pick up a flyer if they are busy, give them a call after the event, and get into see them. Remember they are there to promote their businesses not listen to a sales pitch from someone else. (Even if the service you offer could be of benefit to them!)
Also, they will get to know you in a more relaxed environment. B

I almost never hand out a business card. I normally use the excuse that I 'just ran out' and ask for their contact info. Business cards have a tendency to get lost when you give them out (or worse... thrown in the prospect's drawer never to be seen again). So by getting their info, you can grow your list of prospects and contact them in a more direct and more attentive manner, and as Blair said, you can contact them when they are not so busy with a hundred other things. |

Thanks Scott for the comp. I think I'm blushing (or maybe it's a touch of high blood pressure!! LOL)
