I recieved my vernet boon writer today and I'm a little dissapointed to find out that you attach it to your thumb with blue tack. Well I notice it doesn't stick well and falls off easy. Anyone else had this problem?

Boons never worked for me either.
Under nails are OK if you have the fingernails. However, they're easy to lose. The TT one works best for me. |

Agreed Jaz. Never liked a boon writer, didn't work out for me. An under nail is the way to go I think! But like you said, easy to lose, so always have a back up!

My vote's for the under nail...just don't chew your nails

Thumb tip is great for learning. Under the nail is the way to go for me. Someone told me that he just used a piece of graphic and a bit of wax. My handwriting is way too terrible for any of that. I need all the control I can get and I don't like relying on wax.

I always preferred an under nail unit also. Here's a neat tip. Stick a say 4" by 6" or so rubber magnet in a pocket and stick your Writers to it. When you kick off the one you are using into that pocket the magnet will pick it up. Virtually eliminated losing them for me. Best,

Double sided carpet tape is sticky enough to hold it in place.

I make my own boon writers, usually in batches of a dozen or so at a time because It then becomes disposable, if I lose it or drop it or if I have to hide it quickly to move on to the next effect it's not a problem just to flick it off my thumb onto the ground or floor, it is so small it will be stood on and lost or swept up in rubbish never to be seen again. All you need is Araldite Rapid and a pencil. Carefully open the pencil along its length with a knife, sometimes if you look closely at the flat end you can actually see where it is joined and split it open there. Remove the lead and cut it into short 10mm lengths. Prepare a flat piece of plastic with some sort of lubricant on it so the glue wont stick to it and the boons can be easily removed, I have used various things, even fairy liquid works, just a very thin layer wiped on with a finger is all you need. Mix up some Araldite Rapid and using a match or a nail drop little dolops of glue onto the sheet until they form round circles about 10mm in diameter, then carefully place a bit of lead into it. The Araldite Rapid sets quite quickly so the lead should stand up on its own pretty soon but sometimes you have to occasionally straighten them up to the standing position, they will stand better if you cut the lead with a good flat end on it so it stands up itself. Leave the glue to dry and peel them off the plastic.
I have used various things to stick them on but I have found the best thing believe it or not is a tiny spot of superglue, , , I can a hear the horror already.....well in the 8 years or so I have been doing this I have never pulled any skin off my thumb, they actually come off easily, especially if they have been on a while. Obviously you cant use the superglue method in front of an audience, never been a problem for me, If I know I am about to perform it I will excuse my self. I have been asked by people who have seen it to "Do it to their friend" I will just answer " certainly, no problem, just gonna pop to the little boys room first, this is hard enough at the best of times, almost impossible if you need the toilet too". Before I go I ask them to start thinking about what ever it is I am going to predict. |

Never liked the boon, the blutac was never sticky enough, when I do use one its a TT style . I am not keen on any of them really as they alays look like a 4 year olds scribble.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.
