The guy in New Zealand who used to make troublewits has stopped. They seem to be unavailable ANYWHERE. does anyone know of a current source?

As well as this place

Thanks for the info Payne, I am however hoping to find some plain white ones. the colored ones tend to crack and I think they tend to take away from the imagination of the trick.

I looked for plain white ones for a very long time to no avail. I finally just gave up and started folding my own.
If you go to an art store you can generally find heavy weight paper of the proper size required to make them up.

Some time ago I remember seeing a book about things to do with it. I can't remember the name. Any help on that? I like the idea of using it since I believe it will work in the different countries I go to.

Hi All,

How big of a sheet of paper should you start with if you are going to fold one of these babies yourself? I found some instructions on line but I am not sure how big of a piece of paper or even what kind of paper I should start with. Any of you guys ever make these yourself?

Thanks,

Dan-

Abbott's used to have 'em... I got half a dozen from a friend who made them in the orient, but he has gone to troublewit heaven.

Jay Marshall made his own. My guess is to try to contact him at http://www.magicinc.net and see what he can tell you.

I had forgotten about it, maybe I need to dust it off.

Thanks Pete. I'll give him a try. I have kind of a choreography routine I am working on and some of the hats are better suited to a troublewit than the old felt ring.

Thanks a million.

Best,

There was a comic in the '60s that could sing a bit and he did a troublewit/chapeaugraphy type routine with just a plain white handkerchief. It was fantastic. Wish I could recall his name.

Here is a site has links to pre-made small, medium, and large Troublewits. The site will give you bit of history of this wonderful tool. You’ll find that it has been around and in publication since 1710! David Devant made it popular during Queen Victoria's reign. Check out:

Thanks for the link Harry, That is great.

Pete, that sounds funny about using a handkerchief. I have been playing with that too.

Thanks guys.

You can get Troublewit from http://www.stoners.com it is not advertised on their web site but just email them and they can provide. or contact Dick Stoner this toll free # 866-977-1100. They carry the white paper. Jim in New Zealand is no longer making them to my knowledge.

They have the large white @ $28 and they only have one left small table hopping colored version troublewit for $29.95, comes with instructional video. I believe the small version are no longer made.

Hi,

I know that Stevens Magic has just gotten some new ones that look really nice. These are new enough (we just shot the photos for the ad last Friday), and are not on the website as yet. Their website has their phone number, or you can email Mark Stevens at mark@stevensmagic.com.

Someone earlier on this thread asked about the Troublewit book. Here's a link for it on the Morrissey Magic website:

- Troublewit Simplified book, at Morrissey Magic.

Also, a link for the troublewit itself on the Morrissey Magic website:

- Troublewit in colour or white, at Morrissey Magic.

For those wanting to order, you should know that Morrissey is based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I purchased my book and troublewit from them years ago.

- Donald

P.S. I know that Harry and others supplied different links earlier, but I am just trying to share other links.

Thread Necromancy!

Could 2021 be the year of troublewit revival?

In the July 2020 Linking Ring magazine, the youth trivia column is about the history of troublewit. In it Andrew Pinard, an active Café member, provides great historical details. It goes on to say:

"We'd like to thank Andrew Pinard for his help with the history and research this month. For the past several years, he has been writing a book about Troublewit, and he expects it to be completed within a year or two. Look for it!"

If the column is any indication, this will be a defining tome on the subject. I've seen Sid Lorraine, Jay Marshall, and many others perform troublewit in its heyday. But I've not seen a smoother act than Andrew's here:

And in January 2020, Penn Jillette mentioned on his podcast that they were looking for a way to get troublewit in their show.

Really excited that troublewit could make a come back.

On another topic, does anyone know if Dick Oslund ever published his "KISS Oragami" troublewit routine? Surprisingly, it isn't in Road Scholar or his early lecture notes. Would be a shame if his streamlined routine was lost to history.
