Hi,

i´m searching for a person like that, at least he should know something about it.

Why do I search for someone?

My mainpage is in flash and it contains a slideshow, which needs to be outsourced, so that it only downloads, if someone clicks the button to see it and not by just visiting the page - it takes way toooo long to load.

Is anyone able to help?

Thanks,

rené

No offense, but the best solution: get rid of Flash. That's your site load problem.

Build one with only HTML, CSS, and some Javascript and you'll be sitting pretty.

As someone who lives in an area where high speed internet is unavailable at any cost, so we have to rely on dial up or other slow internet connections (and there are millions of us in North America) flash usually means that I cannot even look at the site.

Hi Scott and rje,

In long terms you are right, but at the moment I just want to fix it, but I think I have to search somewhere else as amongst the magic crowd. Smile

In general high speed internet is not a problem in Germany.

I built my site by asking geeks a million "help, how do I..." questions. Join a couple of self-help FLASH forums. Most of the guys there are just bursting to help out. Browse a few forums to get a feel for the site. Join the one that feels 'user friendly' Ask for help.

If you want something fixed quickly ..Post it as a job on guru.com , elance or rentacoder.com and you'll get experts bidding to fix you up for peanuts.

I posted a great resource all about "outsourcing" just a few days
ago to my MagicCoach guys. (Not sure if the special offer is still on )

High speed internet isn't the problem. Flash is. It often takes much more CPU power than bandwidth for your computer to just display Flash. (though bandwidth is still a chunk of the problem).

As for searching outside the magic community, there are MANY on this very forum who can do the HTML CSS thing for you. I can write HTML and CSS in my sleep, as can many others here.

I'm willing to help as much as I can, but I don't do that for money, so can only offer suggestions. I'm sure there are PLENTY reading this very thread who WOULD be able to do that for you.

But I would say don't put a band-aid on it. Fix it right.

Plus, by having a Flash site, you are turning off every iPhone user out there, like me. You may say "so what" but that is turning into a HUGE market.

Flash is outdated by now according to the words of my SEO specialist that I pay for optimizing my site... just my 2 cents...

Thank you guys!

@scott

Yes, you are right about fixing it right - no question, but this has to wait until the beginning of 2010 or so.

@jamesbond

Yes, I also think it has never been up to date.

@kinesis and mr hyde

Thanks for the suggestions, I will use your input to find a solution to the problem.

Upload your pictures to picasaweb.google.com and then create a slideshow (read the help files) and embed your slideshow in your website.

the "thumbnails" (small images) are shown and larger images are shown only if you click in them.

Quote:

You can embed a Flash slideshow of any web album. It'll be automatically updated when you make changes to your album. Follow these steps to embed a slideshow:

1. On the My Photos page, click your album.
2. Click Link to this album on the right-hand side.
3. Click Embed Slideshow.
4. Choose your slideshow settings, such as image size, captions, and autoplay.
5. Once you've chosen your settings, copy the resulting HTML code (Ctrl-C).
6. Paste the HTML in the source code for your site (Ctrl-V).

Once the slideshow is embedded in your site, people who click your slideshow will be taken to view your album in Picasa Web Albums.

I recommend elance.com for finding various gurus.
