I work late into the night, bringing pleasure to people around the country. That is the way I am. This means I'm often the only one on the road for the last 15 miles to where I live, a road that goes through the desert where there are no houses or lights or anything other than wild horses and coyotes. This is about 35 miles from the national park considered the darkest skies in the US so you can guess how dark it is. While driving I see out of the corner of my eye a light flashing with the light going into my car! I would turn around and never catch the source of the light but night after night I'd see this strobe. I was actually getting nervous because I didn't know if someone was on a hill hitting my car with a beam of light or if a helo was around so I investigated. I searched the car, nothing that could cause the light, I checked the closest air strip, too far away and planes can't land at night cuz there are no lights. I drive home the other night and there is the strobe! I stop and get out and walk around, no lights anywhere, I get in and drive, strobe! I stop again and get out, coyotes are eyeballing me, horses want to stomp me, but I stand and look at the car for ten minutes and it is fine. I get in and before I start it, there is the strobe! It must be aliens! I'm jerking my head around looking for the source of this light that has bothered me for weeks, then I catch my reflection in the mirror. I'm in a canyon and have no cell phone connection, my ear piece was flashing every ten seconds or so to tell me that I wasn't getting a signal! What I was seeing was the reflection in the complete darkness on the side window but when I looked I turned my head and the flash would continue to be off to the side. So I have solved the mystery of the phantom ghost light....

Great story, LMAO!
I had a similar experience a few months back! I had got home late and after some usual routine stuff around the house I was walking through turning out lights and then walking down my hall way in the pitch dark a "Flash" happened! I didn't think much about it until I got in bed and it happened a couple more times before I realized I still had my Bluetooth in my ear! FWIW, Those wild ponies want no more to do with you than you do them! Now the coyotes may have other ideas! Next time I'm up there you gotta take me out to see the wild ones and I'll take you to the Italian place! DANG, I forgot to get you the address! I'm putting a note on the home message board so I'll have it for ya tomorrow! |

Great story indeed! I was very excited, trying to figure out possible explanations, but never thought of an earpiece-even I use one every day, one that flashes all time time (signal or not). Must have been somewhat freaky.
My story is not nearly as exciting, but for a few weeks it had me puzzled...this includes nighttime, strange light, woods and a desolate road... My better half does a lot of evening shifts and I am the designated driver. When picking him up from work, I drive thru a stretch of woods. Every evening at one spot I saw a red flash or streak. At first I didn't pay much attention to it but it occurred every night and had me puzzled...it couldn't be from our car as I saw it in the woods before I went to the curve. No houses nearby. When driving there in daylight, I started slowing down and kept staring into the woods-and saw nothing but trees and bushes. So finally I stopped and went for a little exploration. And found a piece of broken glass, leaning against a stump. It was angled upwards so it didn't reflect our headlights. Looking around I didn't see any red lights-but then I realised the glass is angled upwards and lo and behold, in the other side of the road, in the woods is a cell network uplink-with red aircraft warning lights. Its so cleverly positioned you really don't see it from the car and I had no idea of the thing is there. Like I said, it's not exciting even, but did puzzle me for a while.

Cool stuff! Just think of those who see lights and just assume it is something and never found out.

You're so right! Good thing I have an inquisitive mind! LOL I am pretty sure someone has seen it and is quite sure its the spirit of someone who mysteriously died there someday...
You know, I was 14 when I got my first glasses and I saw a lot of lights and whatnot, before I realised the glasses reflected what's behind me. And boy the glasses were huge (late 80s) so there was a lot of reflective surface! And I was called fly-eye...they were that big...

Just because your ear piece was flashing, doesn't mean the aliens weren't putting you into a trance, and performing anal probes.

I think the most disturbing thing about this story is the fact that people are using bluetooth earpieces...

When I first started teaching, the students in the community talked about "Ghost Road."
The legend had it that this isolated rural road had once been the scene of a tragic accident. A young man had been sent from his girlfriend's house by an angry father. On the way home, he crashed the motorcycle on this road and was decapitated. The road has since become a party road for teens. The revellers claim that some nights they see the phantom motorcycle headlight approaching them. As it gets nearer though, it vanishes. I heard the story a number of times and figured the only spirits on the road came from a bottle. Still, curiousity got the better of me, so I took my motorcycle up to Ghost Road one night to check it out. There were no houses, no cars, nobody on the road. I stopped the bike and waited in the dark to see what would happen. After about a half an hour, I was getting ready to leave, when I saw it. The single headlight coming down the road. No sound, just the light. And then it vanished. I started my bike and moved down the road a bit closer to where I saw the light, shut off the bike and waited again. Again, the light came out of the dark. This time, I started my bike and headed to the end of the road and waited. The light again appeared, but this time it was in a farmer's field. I knew what it was then. In the area, the roads are laid out in straight line over rolling hills. At places, the roads stop at crossroads. A few kilometres further though, another crossroad will take you to where the road resumes. What I saw (and others who have experienced it) was the headlights of a car in the distance, far enough away that their two headlights looked like one light. In the dark, with no point of reference, this "light" appeared to be on the Ghost Road if you were far enough down it. |

I once had an interesting experience in a similar landscape. Some years back we were driving back from our neigbour town. It was the foggiest night I have ever seen-visibility was so poor we were literally driving about 20 miles an hour, you could barely see. One point we saw a light in the sky. It seemed to just float there and after some time it got really close-or so it seemed. And then the car turned off the high-beams (I still wonder why they used them in the first place because in fog they're pointless). We were actually driving into a valley as was the other car, just it was on the much higher and steeper side and because of the fog we had absolutely no orientation so it really was a light in the sky. In this case we did know it is a car and its the fog that is playing tricks on our perception, and knew there is only one spot on the highway where that could happen. It was really really cool, I wish I could experience it again.

The road can play some strange tricks on the mind. I can't count the times I've gotten my self worked into a frenzy over nothing on a dark wooded road at night.

Ahhh...pepper's ghost at work.
My wife was telling me her colleague was at a conference. In the middle of the night he gets up to go the bathroom and turns on a light in his hotel room and is starteld to see a half naked man standing in his room. Immediately he runs back to bed and calls the front desk screaming at the desk clerk "There's an ugly half naked man in my room!" The desk clerk clamly asks, "Sir were you going to the bathroom?" "Yes, I was he says." She clamly replied, "Sir, that's your reflection in the mirror."
Peace

Hey MagicSanta,
Here's my 'ain't-what-I-was-thinking' tale. Three years ago, my kids and I moved into our new home, a second-floor condominium. About two weeks after we arrived, I'm up late writing. Suddenly, I hear a soft but long sound coming from the corner of the living room nearest the large window. There were still plenty of unpacked boxes in that corner. By the time I get over to the corner, the sound had ceased. I poked around the boxes, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Then I hear it again and this time, it sounds like it's coming from the pile of stuff at my feet. I know this sounds weird, but this noise was EXACTLY like the sound of breathing made by my old roommate's 9-foot Burmese Python. So, that eerie little thought is now running through my brain and I'm starting to get nervous. What is in my home?! The breathing-sound kept coming and going every minute or so, making me more jumpy until it finally stopped altogether. By that time, I had rummaged through the pile of unpacked boxes and checked everything several times over. A few nights later, I'm up late again and the sound starts up once more near that same corner. Again, I get the jitters and rummage through the boxes in vain until the bizarre sound goes away. This happens on and off for more than a month. I spent many nights lying in bed and staring at the ceiling wondering what was causing that creepy sound I could hear out in the living room. Then one night, I get home from a show well after midnight. I take the dog out for a quick walk. As I'm coming down the stairs to the backyard woods, the water sprinklers cycle on. The jet-stream from one of the sprinklers oscillated around until it impacted the side of the gutter-pipe coming down from the roof...made a heck of an unexpected racket and startled the dog and me both. Yup. The sound of the rushing water against that pipe was being carried up the wall and transferred into my living room as a strong hissing noise. Being on the upper floor, it never dawned on me that the automatic sprinkler system was the culprit. I got that sprinkler adjusted so the 'snake' that haunted my home is gone now. I felt like such an idiot. Best, Mick

Nice!
When I was an apartment dweller I heard a voice from out front, a clear male voice, saying something about 'it is time' or similar. I go out to confront the guy but everything is dark, no one in the room. A few nights later I hear the voice again, I run out front, nothing. I noticed it was around 3 am so I start getting up at that time and I hear that voice, so I get up one night and stand in the front room and dang if it didn't happen again. I followed it around and after a couple days I discovered my wife, a teacher, had been given a watch by a kid that she put into her box of stuff she gets from the kids and it had an alarm set for 3 am and when it went off Spiderman would say 'it is time'. It had me freaked out. |

Mick, that is such a cool story!
Santa, that must have been exciting! My cellphone had my dad puzzled a few weeks back...I was helping him out, mowing the lawn and had left my cell inside. Now it checks my email every 5 minutes if there is a WLAN present. As "you've got mail" sound I use an MP3 clip of Darth Vader (geek I am, yes yes) saying "The dark side of the force is strong with you"...I was getting a lot of email that day, so my dad heard that every five minutes and was completely baffled by the time I got inside. I once saw a weird light that was moving very low and very fast, changing direction suddenly. Though didn't have much time to wonder about it-it was a dog with LED collar. You know, there's a million books about "true stories" about ghosts and whatever. We could do a book with real spooky stories with real-world non-supernatural rational explanations! Got another cool story to share, will write it a bit later.
