They will separate all too quickly my friend. Meanwhile, put a pencil dot in the top left and bottom right corner of the 7's and the middle ace so that you "locate" easier. Then, when you have arrived, talk a bit of patter as your right middle finger from underneath the deck, unrushed, ensures that the card is revealed. As ladies would say, lift and separate baby
For 15 years this has been my favourite trick. Its diabolical. Quick tip: I make my own card box which has the same design front and back. I find this better than using a bicycle deck card box which has two faces and can draw attention to itself for reasons that we know of for this particular trick... To make a card box simply take a bicycle card box and unfurl it (slice down the side where it is glued) and using blu-tac stick it to some fancy holographic card and cut out the shape. Use the back edge of a box cutter to score the appropriate lines and simply fold up and glue. |

Sorry for going off-topic.
IMHO the days of the good old classic 'Brainwave Deck' is over. I feel that the new method Brainwave Deck (I will tell you in a moment ) is a better alternative to the old classic. Both, the old classic as well as the new method has their own advantages & limitations. In the old classic the deck can not be inspected but the thought of card can be. Whereas, in the new method it is vise-a-versa - i.e. in the new method you have an absolutely normal deck of cards with 1 or 2 extra (additional) cards. Keeping the above in mind you, you have to decide (between the two) which one you consider to be better. OK, most of us know the classic Brainwave Deck and its working. As of now we have two methods (to the best of my knowledge??) for the new Brainwave Deck. 1. Improved ultimate brainwave by Bob Solari - This method needs two extra cards, but with a little thought it can be done with just one extra card. 2. 'The Brain Wave' effect in Magic Marker's 'Underground Magic' DVD. - This method need only one extra card. However, both the above methods are not perfect IMHO. They do need slight tweaking/ modification to make them near perfect. In magic nothing can be called perfect/ ultimate. You always have room for improvement. For my suggested improvements please read my posts HERE. Enjoy!

I tried out a new method of using the brainwave deck in a show last night at a restaurant as a grand finale. It was 10-15 minutes of business.
I took a normal deck of cards and gave two cards to 26 people. I asked them to discard one card and give their chosen card to a "team leader" at their table. There were six tables. I then got the team leaders to reduce those cards down to one card. I then got the team leaders to give their one card to an overall leader in the restaurant (in this case, the birthday boy) who now receives five cards from the other team leaders. He then reduces the six cards that he has (his own plus the five from the other team leaders down to one final card. He then is instructed to hold it up high and name this last card. I have a large, standard brainwave deck on a close-up table next to me and I say that tonight you will witness an example of fate and magic. Fate, in that the card that you have all contributed in some way to become the chosen one is indeed the only one face up in this large pack. Magic, in that the back of the card is blue and the rest are red. I can tell you, I got a standing ovation for it. This is still a strong effect to the lay audience and I managed to make it last 10-15 minutes and it was good from an audience participation point of view. |

I like Brainwave over Invisible Deck. It's just easier(less math) than the ID and I love turning over a card with a different colored back. I have ID right now but not Brainwave. Actually I went into the magic shop and thought I bought the Brainwave but they sold me the ID.
The only downfall is not being able to examine the deck but usually people are so blown away they forget to ask and that gives a little time to switch them or at least put it out of sight. Despite all the wonderful tricks with difficult sleights or routines I can't say I've ever had a reaction like Brainwave gives. It shuts brains down. |

If you think about it with the invisible deck once they remove their card ,you can turn it around and then swith decks. Then the deck can be examined I don't see that with the brainwave deck for obvious reasons.

I've long ago forgotten the pattern anyway! Also, I consider both the ID and Brainwave to be methods, not effects. One shouldn't have to "ask" what their desired card is or it simply becomes a mechanical piece anyone could buy from a magic shop. Layers on layers is the way I see it! Thomas Henry |

I made my own ID and it's a totally different method than the standard ID. Do you know that if your into readings with playing cards an ID comes in pretty handy? Check out Killer Konceptions by Kenton Knepper and you'll see what I am talking about. John Tremaine's Mentalism vhs tape is the method I use for the ID.

If you use/make your ID based on your memorized stack it's a play. Michael Close describes in his workers also a very good method using a normal (but in memorized order stacked) deck. I've reworked it using the deck entirely face down. Jan

Thanks Shane for giving a great suggestion on how doing trick with Brainwave. I usually doing the standard routine. I will ask three random spectators. The first one will choose the color (Black or Red), the second one will then choose which suit based on the first spectator's choice. The last spectator will choose any value from Ace to King.
It's a mind-blowing.

Is it possible to touch up a pair or two of cards that are too loose?

If you have dry hands it can be difficult to seperate. Try hand lotion.

Maybe take a look at Card-Shark's Brainave Deck which is based on the Phoenix Double Decker. I think it is the best gimmicked Brainwave Deck you can buy.
