Hey Guys,
So currently in my Card Manipulation act I end with the Cards from Mouth. I am trying to end with something more unique and less common but still amazing and unexpected. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions of something that is uncommon but amazing. All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot, Danny Dubin |

I believe this exact question has been asked before, you might try a search.
Your final fan should be the largest possible you can make, just dramatically throw the cards into your container, walk forward a few steps, spread your arms as an applause cue. If you like the Jumbo Card Finale effects, you could use them as well. Your question is a little puzzling, as you ask for something uncommon. Yet, if someone has something special to them, then they would not be very open to sharing it, as it is their property, and most likely want to keep it for themselves. Uncommon and special presentations is what makes magicians stand out form one another. Take Norm Nielsen's Musical Coin Ladder and Floating Violin, or Mr. Electric's Multiplying Light Bulbs. The Café is a place that magicians help magicians, but we do not openly give out secrets and hand out complete ideas for free. You must gain the knowledge and use your creative thinking to come up with unique effects and routines on your own. To see an example of creative thinking, take a look at any of the DVD sets by Levent, his Billiard Ball, Miser's Dream, and his old manipulation act are very creative thinking. But he had the knowledge to pull from by researching books. I suggestion I would like to make is the Arthur Buckley Trilogy books, reprinted in paperback and very inexpensive. Many of the masters in magic look into the past to find something new. |

Bill is right. If it is something very uncommon it may be hard for someone to share it freely. Researching from the past is a good way to start.

I think the production of a card castle is a natural ending for a card manipulation routine. My personal favorite was the self-expanding card castle that I think was made by Toshio Akanuma. It looks like a giant ace that transforms into a card castle. I covered the face and back of the ace with a newspaper that I had laminated and reinforced with posterboard. The newspaper is in a simple stand onstage so that it can act as a receptacle for cards as I produce them. Then I would pick up the newspaper and effect the transformation to a card castle. The cards I had dropped into the newspaper fell to the floor, adding to the impression that the cards are not "glued together."

This pop up card castle has not been available for over 10 years. It was by a company in Japan Called Tricks Co. I have searched extensively and cannot find them. Being they have not been imported, I would say they are no longer in production.

I just saw a "card castle" by Uday on penguinmagic - is this similar to what you are looking for?

The Uday Card Castle is the best built model on the market that I can find. The price is right, but it does not open automatically.

I used to drop the cards into a hat, turn it upside down and lift a card castle into view. As the cards fell it looked like they became the castle. Feel free to use that, as I haven't done it in a lifetime.
Also, if you want uncommon, look into Tommy Wonder's version of Diminishing Cards. A highly visual yet rarely used effect.

I end my card routine with a double-fan followed by a double-fan cascade into the container I used for catching cards as I produced them. You can see the cascade (which was a Jerry Andrus idea) at the end of this video on the Net:
http://members.cavtel.net/parmenides/fan......fans.mov The Zinab deck I use in that routine makes the exhibition card fans a more magical effect than just a series of fancy flourishes. (I came up with the idea of reversing half of the deck for the double fan when I was a teenager and didn't have a professional fanning deck; it made a double fan with a regular Bicycle deck look a little more exotic than just a regular double fan.) One ending (I can't recall the book I originally read it from) was to produce a frew cards singly and drop them into a Jap box (sorry for the ethnic reference, but that _is_ the name of the box), whence they then vanished. If you have a box with a double load, you can segué to a silk routine. I had a pipe dream once of producing cards and dropping them into a top hat or box rigged like a foo can. Then at the end of the production, turn the hat upside down--the cards "vanish" and a Rice full house card silk appears in their place. Another ending could be producing a series of alphabet cards singly that spell out "T-H-E---E-N-D" or "B--Y--E--!" or "F-I-N-I-S." (I produced alphabet cards once to produce the call letters of a local PBS station as part of their auction promotion and that went over very well with the producers.) ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Hobson drops his cards into a Jap box that folds flat flat flat and gets a great reaction.

Lewis Ganson's Routine Manipulation vol 1 has great ideas on jumbo card fans....
