I think it's spelt correct.
I have the Ultra Gaff deck, had it awhile but enver used it. I finally watched all 3 DVDs that package with the deck and some tricks actually took me by surprised at their greatness and I may put one in my routine. (4 Angels anyone else like? Moving?) What gets me, maybe it's just my taste and being used to Bill Malone, Doc Eason and Harry Loryane.... But I think the presentation of themselfs on the dvd is rather annoying. Somtiems I find my self thinking "come on, get on with it!", I did not pay all this money to see you both prat around and laugh to get on my nerves.... Maybe it's just not my cup of tea and others love them, I like the tricks, I like the mind set they are in with magic but the dvd has minutes and minutes of them pratting around and having insider jokes between them selfs I sometimes got the feeling their taking the pee out of us... The Viewer (Consumer). I dunno, just wanted to get it off my chest that I have to skip loads just because they drag on so much with unncessary things. Though the tricks are good. |

I know what you mean. Some performers make good teachers. Some don't. Many of the DVD's I see seem to be focused more on "Look what I can do, aren't I great" rather than "Here's how to do it, let me help you" and along with that comes all the filler that you're referring to.
That's why most of my purchases seem to end up focusing on the offerings of Eason, Lorayne, Ammar, etc... and very little of the others.

It's just the style of the video, it's meant to showcase their personalities because a lot of people find that entertaining - a lot of people watch magic DVDs for this reason
I agree with Dave V, Eason and Ammar should be on your shelf! |

With all respect. Eason, Lorayne, Ammar, etc... are great. They became great because of their peers. I think it would be cool to see and hear those guys joke and prat around. The times are changing and what may have been entertaining in the past may not hit the mark today. The age demographic tells the story. It is kind of like music. What the older folks like, the younger folks do not and vice versa. Learning to appreciate each other is what needs to be focused on. The videos mentioned remind me of jamming with your buddies in a very laid back setting, not the L& L studios or some other usual spot. I think that TA was great in breaking from the cookie cutter norm of the same people in the same room teach ins and performances. Are we becoming afraid of the new ideas and clinging to our old? Are we jealous at the young ages of these guys and their popularity? In order for the art to be healthy, more criticism that is constructive should be offered instead of the attitude that this sucks because of this, that and whatever. In my posts, I try to educate with both old and new artists. This helps the young people explore Eason, Lorayne, Ammar, etc. while learning from Garcia, Houchin, Jermay, Dancy, Kranzo etc. The old school, new school thing makes magic fun. We just need to stop comparing 70’s 80’s to the 90’s and present. We need to enjoy the bounty of good stuff out there and try to look past the “inside jokes” "look what I can do" and what not.

Without commenting on any specific DVDs or individuals, I like it when some of the performer's personality shows through, not just in the effect, but during the explanation. I always prefer learning from books to video, but when I do watch a video, I enjoy an entertaining presentation, as long as the essential material is still covered. No one said we have to be serious all the time.
But that's just my personal taste, and I can understand why some might object.
