I'm putting the final touches on my set, a 45-minute parlor/stage show and am wondering about something. I really enjoy the rings and am fascinated by the cups and balls. Off the top of my head I don't remember a whole lot of people performing them both in a show. I'm thinking about using both, but they feel very similar to me, i.e. classics of magic. Anybody use both in their routines?

If you want to perform both routines, just do it.

The classics.
Audiences love them for many reasons. Just make sure your routines are entertaining and not the type only a magician would appreciate and you're golden!

I think you're right. As long as they are entertaining they should both be able to find a place in my show. I'll just have to give it a go and see how it works.
Thanks

I've been performing my egg bag routine for 4 years and my cups routine for 7.
They both keep changing and improving. It takes years (for me) to get them to grow up and be good routines. But you have to start somewhere and they won't become entertaining until you get out there with them and see what works and doesn't work. That's one of the exciting things about having the guts to pursue a classic. You know where it will begin but you have no idea where, years later, it will end up. And it ain't going anywhere until you really start performing it.

Open with the Rings, Malini Egg Bag in the middle and close with the Cups. Can't miss. If you need more time add a rope trick.

Thanks for the tips. I really like the classics. They are what got me interested in magic in the first place. I was wondering about whether to do cups first or rings first, but if Pete says open with the rings and close with cups, who am I to argue. By the way, any particular reason for that Pete, other than years of experience?

Thanks for the input guys. I know I shouldn't apologize for the classics. I just don't have much magic to be exposed to around herte and so had to ask the question.

Al Koran, in his lecture says "Open with the rings. They get their attention and as the effect progresses it gets better." He used the rings to open his complete mental act.
The egg bag, in the middle is so you don't close your act with helpers on stage. The final loads with the cups is AN ENDING. 'nuff said????

I've used both, along with the cut and restored rope, in the same show many times. There nowhere close in premise, other then the fact that they're classics.

I agree with Petes advice. "Open with the Rings, Malini Egg Bag in the middle and close with the Cups". It is always best not to finish with egg on your face.
