So the World Market here has bacon dark chocolate bars made with sea salt. On the package the lady says she thought of it from dipping bacon in chocolate syrup as a kid.
Then today there is a guy on tv saying he got the idea from the Minnesota state fair. His bars are also made with sea salt. Even the packaging on both bars is nearly identical. I have heard other people claim to have invented the bar on some of my girlfriend's chick shows. Is it like agriculture, where it was invented simultaneously in several locations? Or is there something more nefarious there? And what ever happened to chocolate covered potato chips? I demand answers!

Sea salt with dark chocolate was a trend at some higher end eateries in the U.S. in 2008. Looks like it has gone mainstream in 2009.
But the French (and others no doubt) have been doing chocolate with fleur de sel (sea salt) for a long time. So those people who claim to have invented it are merely rediscovering something with a long history. They sound as bad as many magicians.

The way I see it, Elvis was ahead of the game...as usual. Mixing bacon with sweet things (bananas, grape jelly, whatever) lies at the core of all this. It's an Elvis thing.

Speaking of Elvis, anyone ever had the Memphis fritter at Voodoo donut in Portland?
It's a giant peanut butter banana fritter. It's so greasy. It gave me a stomach ache. I believe that it is the most gastronomically brutal donut ever made. I must find the chocolate covered potato chips...

Many things have multiple individual creators and only those that claim all others should cease are liars. That cabbage patch guy tried to sue my aunt for making the same dolls (he sued everyone he could find) and she produced photos of the same dolls she made in the 40's and she said they were not new then.
