In the Art of Astonishment, Paul Harris has two similar effects, peeler and chocolate coin. One is where you tear the back of a card and restore it, and the other is where you borrow a coin, and apparently peel back the foil to show the coin is chocolate underneath.
So here's the challenge... To do peeler with a piece of fruit, to the patter of checking that it's ripe. So you peel back the skin, see that it is (or isn't) ripe, and then restore the skin. Any suggestions? |

Peel off another piece from another fruit. Just don't let the audience see.....

Hmmm.. that's what I thought, but with that way, there wouldn't be any fruit underneath.
Say you take an orange. Peel a strip of the skin off, so that the fruit is seen underneath. You comment that it looks good, so you'll save it. Then you restore the skin. By just palming an extra piece of peel, you can't display the insides of the orange. Having said that, I don't have any other ideas.... oh well. |

How about, you find a small orange or round tangerine and c a r e f u l l y remove the peel. Replace the fruit with one of the Toblerone chocolate oranges. Remove the 'peel' from the whole thing, being astonished as you do so, and you end up with a pile of peelings (removing the evidence of the gimmick) and a nice chunk of chocolate to share with your audience.
If you were really adventurous, maybe even replace a wedge or two of the chocolate with real fruit, making that the first thing you peeled and got out of the 'orange'. THEN start showing and producing the chocolate. Might want to practice first with a ball instead of the chocolate- those rascals aren't cheap and the chocolate might get messy. |
