When one puts out a product in this manner than you have to expect that people are going to have questions or concerns regarding the quality of said product. All that's being asked for (repeatedly) is a simple product demo. If a product demo isn't available then it begs the question that this hasn't been produced or in fact performed in front of real people. PHP can easily solve all of this and have us all lining up for the Latest and Greatest. Without the product demo I'm afraid it currently fits under the category of "pipe dream" and don't we all have a drawer full of these collector's edition.

OK, I'm not lining up to buy one, but that's because I don't do close-up magic so it has no place in my repetoire.
However, considering all the stuff that is pushed and sold by relatively unknowns and often inexperienced "creators" I would think that a known and proven performer/creator such as Paul deserves something better than the criticism he's taking here. If you're waiting to see it, fine. Wait. But, why the attacks? Nobody is forcing anybody to buy this and from what I've read the sellers all promise you your money back on your preorder if you choose. Why not wait until you at least see it (when and if it is released) before you make a judgement? |

Well said, I'm fed up with idiots bashing something they know nothing about!

Yes, exactly - if it worked and in use by the inventor why no video? Just like to see what's being offered.

I'm a fan of Paul Harris...I have his Art of Astonishment books, his dvd series, but I STILL wouldn't want to purchase this without seeing a video...And that seems to be the consensus of everyone I've spoken to about this...

Your post rather misses the mark in that it continues to add absolutely nothing to the discussion and instead makes it a personal attack. Show me an unedited product video of this that rocks and you'll see me pony up the money. For now I still remain very unconvinced. jeff |

YOU WILL ALL BUY THIS...NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
PAUL Harris COMMANDS IT. KEEP IN MIND THAT LITTLE MAN COULD JUST AS EASILY APPEAR IN ANY OF YOUR HOMES WITH A LITTLE KNIFE IN HIS LITTLE CLAY HAND. IT IS PROBABLY POSSESSED BY THE INDIAN DEMON THAT Harris SUMMONED DURING THE YEARS THAT HE SPENT LIVING IN A TEEPEE (ALA "Trilogy of Terror") BUT THEN, AGAIN, HE COULD JUST BE A REINCARNATED MR. BILL. OOOOOOOHHHHH NOOOOOOOO

There used to be famous actors and singers, while today, God only knows! Nobody visits except magicians and organ-grinders. No esthetic satisfaction." |

The description sounds too good to be true - but nevertheless, I ordered from Hocus Pocus, as they assure me I can have a refund if I see the video and change my mind. I assume for this price, that Paul is offering a workable item. The re-set time means that it would probably only be used once in a session anyhow, so it's not an item you can repeatedly perform during walkabout.
I'm especially thinking of kids in hospitals, who would love to see this effect. Paul Harris is a highly respected magician, so I'm reasonably confident that we're going to see a fabulous little effect here. Potty |

The longer Paul's company takes to release the product, the higher magician's expectations will be. Folks, please remember that there's no such thing as "real magic."
All the sight-unseen pre-orders for this effect show the valued position Paul Harris has in this community. Congrats Paul - you're a living legend.

I have always refused to buy anything on pre-order. I also think that it's unethical for anyone to try and market an effect without fully testing it themselves first. So, in regards to Paul Harris being an ethical person, I think he just came down a knotch for what is blatantly just a money grab. How high is he on him self that he will sell the first 250 with his autograph on a box? I don't care about his autograph. Like most here a demo would of been nice. But, it seems that there are problems with the product, yet they are asking for pre-orders? Red Flags! And I don't care how reputable Paul Harris is. No one should be expected to just throw that kind of money away on something that they have been told hasn't been perfected yet.
Whatever happened to the good ol days when magician's would sell a trick that they have actually been performing for years first? Now, just because they have a known name in the industry we are expected to buy from them on their name alone? Let me be first to say that my lively hood does not revolve around someone's name. They need us more than we need them. It's sad to see known magicians creating tricks just to market them instead of selling tricks and effects that they themselves have used. That's why there is so much *** kissing going on. As if we owe these people anything. The world of marketing magic has been flipped over for the intent of making as much money as possible. Do people really think that they are helping the magic community by teaming up with each, taking old methods, re-dressing them and selling them without actually using the tricks themselves for at least a year? Are we that gullible? I guess magician's can be fooled eh? (lol) Not this guy. Some might think I'm a (fill in the blank) but I have more respect for myself than to continue to wear rose colored glasses. |

I've not come across a true magical genius in my time and tend to think that your average magic inventor might have one or two good tricks in them.
When folk start bashing out one effect after another I get edgy. When I see pre-orders I get edgier still. As Todd alludes to though, in their eagerness for the next new thing, magicians are an easier sell than most consumers. Having said that its quite a relief to see anumber of peoples hackles being raised at the idea of paying $300 for a sight unseen, never used in anger, effect. Perhaps we're not as daft as I thought we were. |

And in the mean time I'm reading a delightful book "The Golem and the Wondrous Deeds of the Maharal of Prague" published by Yale press in 2007 (still in print).
Still suggest getting a few hats for it, a clown nose in red clay and calling the thing "Emmet" but that's just me. Now ... till someone can say the thing is gonna work as something other than a one-shot on a pre-set table... not going to fret over whether to want one for the Xmas party at work.

I agree with above posts, $300 is too mucho money to expend blindfolded.

How long does it take to make a demo? Are any of us asking for any sort of production value on it. From what I hear people just want to see the effect. How hard is that to film with a phone and put online.
Better then nothing. As always, Dylan |
