I've read a few books by our own John Pilger and seen a number of his TV programmes.
Recently noticed quite a few by Noam Chomsky, on Amazon.com Anybody read any of his work and can recommend which would make a good introduction? Howard |

Hi Howard,
For an excellent introduction to the ideas of Chomsky views on the media: Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda. Pub. Seven Stories Press $8.95 It's a slim, easy to read book which very neatly outlines the basis of his ideas on the media. Recommended. I've heard excellent comments about: Understanding Power: The Indispensable Chomsky Pub. The New Press I've just bought it but haven't read it yet. It's a collection of his best talks. I also quite enjoyed the transcript to the film Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media Pub. Black Rose Books It includes back up information and pictures to illustrate the points made in the film. Many of Chomsky's articles can be read on: http://www.zmag.org/weluser.htm For those that live in the UK look up: http://www.medialens.org A wonderful website that applies Herman's Propaganda Model (which Chomsky writings support) to the British media. Under the articles section Click on Media to find an easy to understand guide to the Model by David Cromwell. Also look at the media alerts which are excellent. I also enjoy Michael Parenti whose position on some issues I prefer to Chomskys. He's also a little more accessable: http://www.michaelparenti.org/ Hope this starts you off! Regards Graham |
