IF you get creative with this there are other displays you can do too, that make it more convincing. What sets this apart is that when you link a ring and a rubber band, and separate them, you have done magic. Because, like the linking rings, they are solid and impossible to link.

I think a lot of ring and string routines are misguided. IT becomes like a puzzle. Because you CAN get a ring on a string with the right twists, etc... and everyone knows this.

I am VERY GLAD this trick came back from the dead. Because the displays are some of the best. Far better than linking a rubber band with a rubber band. Something magical about a solid ring and a rubber band, IMHO.
