In response to another post, just for fun I thought it would be interesting to post sports picks against the spread/juice and keep track of a running total of a hypothetical bankroll. So I'll start with an imaginary ten grand, and start by putting $100 on next Saturday's fight with Mikkel Kessler at +175 (7-4 odds against). For entertainment purposes only.

Balance: $9,900
New Results: None
Pending: $100

at +175 ? What does that mean, decimal odds? And how do we know he his 7/4. You can't choose your own odds can you? What bookie is offering those odds?

+175 means the return is $175 for each $100 wagered (which in turn translates to 7-4). That's the current line at betUS
(http://www.betus.com/sportsbook/boxing-boxing-fight_lines-lines.aspx)

It's probably not the best price available on Ward, but since it's all for fun, I didn't do any line shopping.

Thanks! I don't think he's he lock (or even a probable winner)...just a good price. Like if someone offered you 3-1 against drawing a face card from a shuffled deck. Against a *fairly* shuffled deck, that is! Smile

One easy win (12-point underdog TCU lost by only 3), and one close loss (20-point favorite Illinois won by...19. Doh!)

Balance: $9890
New Results: 1-1 $110 for $100 bets; Net: -$10
Pending: $100

Well, if anything, it's not a bad idea to try, right? If you make it, maybe aces will reconsider. If you don't, it does not prove it can't be done.

Yay for freerolls.

lol Yay for freerolls, indeed! I think the interpretation will be, if I don't, it proves it can't be done; if I do, it's a lucky streak.

btw Tommy...who said anything about a "system"? Anyway...rebuy not required just yet...I'll wait until I'm down more than 0.1%

There are some free tipster competitions over here where you can win money and some where one pays a small fee to enter.

They do those in Vegas, too...great publicity for the books. The more that gets bet, the bigger that house cut!

Lobo,

The best way to try this simulation would be to keep wageriing until you have wagered a total of $10,000 that is your total stake. Then see what your results are. By that I mean just keep track of your actual wagers until they total $10,000 and then check and see what your net win or loss is.

The other way is to stop when you reach a a goal. Lets say you want to win $10,000 with your $10,000. So you stop when your total stash is $20,000 or $0. But to be fair and let the sysem work none of your bets should be more than $250 with a $10,000 stake.

I hope I am making myself clear on this.

Other wise you could wager the $10,000 on one event and win it or lose sit and say see I won or see I lost and it would not prove or disprove anything. The whole concept of a book is the math. The longer you wager (more wagers you make) the more the math comes into play and eats you up.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

I plan to stay in the $100 to $200 range. I agree that disproportionately large bets would make the whole things kind of silly. I plan to be posting enough plays so that it'll go over $10,000 in total action relatively quickly, at 1-2% per play. It's already been close to $1,000, and I'll have quite a bit of plays when the weekend rolls around (football time). But I can keep a running total of how much has been put into action, as well.

I realize I didn't specify on the original (boxing) bet, that's $100 on Andre Ward (who is fighting AGAINST Mikkel Kessler on Saturday).
