I'm doing this "group" project as my final for Comp 201 in school. Let me elaborate on the quotation marks. There are six people in my group. Only one of me is there consistently. All 5 other people were gone today! We have two group meetings left and crap-all put together. Nobody answers their emails. It's ridiculous.
Throw away your own tuition, not mine. Grrrr.

Wait until you work for a company and do a report and send it to your boss to review and the next time you see it the thing has his name on it and yours is no where to be found and he is getting full credit for the work.

Somebody has to prop up the idiots on top while attempting to motivate the lazy and self-posessed. That's kind of jumbled but it sounds pretty close to me. I guess I just thought it might be different because these kids are paying 10k a year to be here. Or maybe their parents are.

Nah, college (I'm assuming it's college) is always the time to screw around on your parent's dollar- if you're paying for it yourself, you tend to work a bit harder.
The 2% you mention are either a) very lucky to have the right connections, or b) rigging the system overwhelmingly in their favor, then just sitting back and looking stupid to escape blame. Remember, when the economy collapsed, a select few made off like absolute bandits while everyone else lost their shirts. Your company's upper management may not have ignored those reports, but rather used them as a guide for when to sell off all their stock. Speaking of which, anyone think it may be a good idea to restrict the amount of stock a CEO can own in a company (while upping their salary to compensate, of course.) It might make them more inclined to look at the long-term health of a company, rather than just its quarterly earnings. They'd still be answerable to the board of directors and the shareholders, of course, but would be less likely to manipulate the company for the sole purpose of increasing their wealth.

The more of a company I own, the more interested I am in its long-term health.

Lobo, maybe- I know it would be incentive for me, too- but then, that company would probably be my main source of income. However, look at the CEOs who step into a company, get stock options and a nice golden parachute, then run it into the ground. For them, the company isn't their main source of income- but manipulating the stock and earnings reports lets them make a lot more money off it.
Now that I look into it, there's other ways to prevent this besides limiting stock options- golden handcuffs, for example- stock options that don't vest for many years, so there's an interest in keeping the company profitable.

Goodish news! I ran into the stoner girl from the group in the hallway after anthro. She actually tried to run away from me but I went out the other door and cut her off. I told her in a tone both polite and menacing that I just wanted to remind her of the group meeting tomorrow since she "must have forgotten today."
I also informed her that everyone else seemed to have forgotten too. Another of my group members works at my gym so I'll go have a similar conversation with him tonight. Good times. ... To me, the hardest part to accept about middle management is that somebody else writes guidelines that you are not allowed to deviate from, and when they don't work it is you who takes the fall and not the moron that wrote the crappy rules in the first place.

But while he was away, his boss delivered the presentation to senior management as if it were her own. “I've had it happen to me so many times in my career it's not even funny,” says Alex, 37, who now works for a marketing company in Calgary. I am now a happy critter. I found everybody yesterday and only one person was gone today. We organized our presentation schedule and they are emailing me their rough drafts. I also found out I am getting some more "surprise" displaced worker money which will help with Christmas. It's been a good day.

I'm one of those people right now, unfortunately... but only because I've been acting in a production all this week. These others, from what I gather, have no excuse... they are trying to look "too cool for school" in the literal sense.

Conclusion:
I finally got everybody organized (with much threatening and harrassing) and the group got a 3.5 for the project. I prefer 4.0's but it'll work.

And you learned something valuable about organizing teams and motivating people - something that you will use long after whatever subject you are studying has faded.
